Soliciting members of the
Heppner Seventh-Day Adventist
church reached their 1954 Mis
sions Appeal goal Saturday, re
ports pastor Robert E. -Becker.
In the final drive to pass the
local $375.00 goal, the minister
said, members collected $441.0X3
last week from friends and neigh
bors of the community. "The
successful conclusion of our ap
peal," he declared, "was made
possible by a community that has
proved itself interested in the
well-being of its fellowmen, re
gardless of race, nationality, or
creed." He pointed out that the
funds received would be used
with equal indiscrimination for
the betterment of mankind.
Last year's appeal throughout
North America brought in $3,
715,000 pastor Becker stated. To
I this amount members added from
their own pockets $50,000,000 to
support church as well as mis
sion, medical, educational, and
welfare work in 197 countries of
the world.
"The Seventh-Day Adventist
church wishes to take this oppor
tunity", he concluded, "to thank
the people of Heppner for the
part they have had in making the
success of this appeal possible."

Kaeh week, inquiries come in to
the office regarding ihe control of
broad leaf weeds in lawns. Since
these broad leaf weeds are doing
well at ths time of the year, is is
now time to spray for control
2,1-1) materials give excellent
control, however, growers should
read container labels carefully
and follow recommendations. The
Kster type of 2.1-1) although an
excellent weed killer, also will
evaporate from the lawn and
drift to susceptible plants. Grow
ers should not use the Kster 2. 1 D
in spraying' their lawns as there
is always vapor drift. Amine
2.1 -D's when applied on a quiet
day are safe to use if not sprayed
directly on susceptible plants,
2,1 I) preparations fur lawn
spraying are available on the
market however, those with
ami ne type 2,1-1) on such as used
for weed control in wheal fields
can he used. It should be mixed
at the rale of 'L. cup lo .'! gallons
of water. Spraying should he done
before mowing and then not mow
for four or five days after spray
ing. Do not use the same spray
can for applying insecticides on
oilier plants. 2, I I) is difficult to
remove from spray containers
can remain in containers and
cause damage. It is best lo have
container for insecticides and one
for 2.4 1) spravs.
