OES, hon ored Mrs. Mabel Hughes, 50 year memDer, and its past matrons and past patrons at a friendship meeting on Friday evening at the Masonic hall. Mrs. Hughes was presented with an Eastern Star pin by her son and daughter, Edwin and Mrs. Anita Lutcher, and a 50 year guard by Ruth chapter. The pre sentations were made bv Mrs.' don, Mori, Ontario, Helena, Mon tana an 1 Rosalia. Washington. The Rainbow Girls gave a drill and song, Sandra Jones gave a recitation, Lucy Peterson sang a song dedicated to Mrs. Hughes, and a men's quartet sang several numbers. The, evening ended with a social hour and refresh ments being served. Presiding officers for Ruth chapter are Mrs. Harold Becket Social Happenings . . . Coming Events Frank S. Parker. Tibbies entertained the "What's Trumps" bridge club at her home Thursday night, April 22. Members present were Mrs. Tom Wilson, Mrs. Harold Conn, Mrs. Leonard Schwarz, Mrs. Wil liam Collins, Mrs. Oscar Georee. Mrs .P. W. Heppner Women Hold Sorority Offices The Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held a luncheon meeting Saturday at the Methodist church in Heppner. Miss Florence Sweet was elect ed president; Mrs. El Blomgren, first vice president; Mrs. Lucy Rodgers of Heppner, second vice president; Mrs. Velva Bechdolt, of Heppner, corresponding secre tary; Miss Murrl Evans, recording secretary and Mrs. A. C. Mclntyre, parliamentarian. Miss Neal Speaks To Episcopal Auxiliary Miss Donna Neal gave a talk on missions and missionaries at the meeting of the Womens Auxi liary of the Episcopal church on Monday night at the parish house. The door prize was won by the guest of honor, Mrs. Pieper, Jay Ball Celebrates Seventh Birthdav Jay Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ball celebrated his seventh birthday with a party at the home of his parents Thursday afternoon Guests were Terry, Niekie, Linda and Wayne Burkenbine, Greg and Rickie Johnson, David and George Van Schioack, David Gray, Pattie Collins and Terry Peck. During the afternoon games were played and refreshments were served. o Soroptimists Have Contest Durina Meet The Soroptimist club met Thursday noon at O'Donnell's for their regular weekly meeting. A letter of thanks was read from the lleppner-Morrinv county chamber ot commerce for the club's contribution toward the blinker school crossing sign. Iitd. j PETERSON JEWELRY Episcopal Church Convocation Held The Annual Convocation of the Episcopal church in Eastern Ore gon was held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 23, 24 and 2.") at Baker. The Rt. Rev. Sumner Walters, Bishop of San Joaquin, was guest preacher and speaker at the Saturday evening banquet. Those from Heppner attending were Rev. and Mrs. John R. Ree ves,, M. R. Wightman, Mrs. Mary Van Stevens, Judy Thompson, Brenda Bengtson, Delbert Piper, Janet Wright and Meredith Thomson. o Local Members At Soroptimist Meeting Mrs. Clara B. Gertson, Mrs. Joe Hughes and Mrs. W. O. George attended the Northwest Regional conference of Soroptimist clubs at Olympia, Washington over the i weekend. There were 191 registered at the conference, where Mrs. George was on the program. A Japanese table was given as a door prize and Mrs. Hughs was the winner of this. During their stay a tour of the capital building was arranged and an organ recital was given during the tour. JayCees-JayCee-ettes Have Potluck Dinner The Jay Cees and Jay Cee-Ettes held their regular monthly joint potluck at the Jay Cee hall on Wednesday night, April 21 Hostesses for the potluck were Mrs. Fred Gronemyer and Mrs. Everett Keithly. During the business meeting Howard Reed, superintendent of Heppner schools, showed slides of different modern school build ings in connection with the new grade school program in progress here. Guests during the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Holm, and Mrs. James Sumners. j o Two Couples Give Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Winkle and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Gardner were co-hosts at a dinner party Satudray night at the Van Win kle residence. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. How ard Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Har lan McCurdy Jr., of lone, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. James Healy, Mr. and Mrs. VVil lard Blake, Mr. and Mrs. William Labhart and Miss Donna Neal. Following the dinner, cards were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. McCurdy. Harlan McCurdy received the door prize. n Blakneys Entertain With Buffet Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Phil Blakney entertained Sunday evening after the Rhea Creek Riot with a buf fet dinner at their home. Their daughter Janet, who has been here for several months, returned home with them. Mrs. Sheedy is the grandmother of Mrs. Jones. Other visitors at the Jones home Sun day were: Mrs. A. V. Miss Dona Barnett and Mrs. Trina Parker, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marquardt spent a week in Portland where they attended the services of Mrs. Lorena Cole. They visited James Leach at Win lock, Washington on Saturday morning returning to Lexington Saturday evening. Mr. Jack Griffen motored to Seattle Saturday where he took his daughter, Mrs. Bud Buchanan and son Ted hack to their home. We will not re ceive our certificates until our dues are paid. Most were due in March. Five girls are paid up. We had an election this month. Officers elected wore: president.
