Heppner Gozette Times, Thursday, April 15, 1954 Page 5 Social Happening Double Ring Ceremony Unites Boardman Couple Saturday BOARDMAN A very quiet but pretty wedding was performed Saturday evening April 10, 1945, 7 p. m. at the Boardman Com munity church, with the Rev. A. E. Davis, Methodist minister, of Hermiston, officiating when Mrs. Bette Hug, daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Arnin Hug became the bride of Delbert Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball Sr., in a dou ble ring ceremony. The bride was very beautiful In blue net over blue taffeta, bal lerina length, carrying a white orchid. The bridesmaid, Miss Bernadine Kress, was beautiful In a floor length orchid taffeta, with a corsage of white carna tions. The gfoom's best man was a brother, Franklin Ball. H-'or the wedding Mrs. Hug wore a grey suit with red accessories and a red carnation corsage. The groom's mother, Mrs. Ball also wore a grey suit, with a red rose bud corsage. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Arnin Hug and daughters, Wilma and Wanda, Sidney Fer guson, Mrs. R. E. Lyons, Mrs. I. T. Pearson, Mrs. Marion Hedgers, Mrs. Adeline Baker, Mrs. John Partlow, Miss Jean Scott, Miss Zelma Cowan, Boardman; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ball and daugh ters Janice and Janet, Mrs. Crys tal Barlow, DeLake, Oreg., Roy Ball Jr. and daughter Thressa, Westfir, Oregon and A2c and Mrs. Neil Wooley and daughter, Pasco, Wash. A reception followed at the Hug home. Mrs. Hug was assisted by Mrs. I. T. Pearson, and Mrs. Lyons with the serving. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Califf and son attended the reception. Schaffitz Entertain Friday Evening Dr. and Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz entertained with a dinner party Friday evening at their home on Court street. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. John rfeiffer, Mr. and Mrs. .Orville Smith and the host and hostess. Episcopal Auxiliary Makes Banquet Plans At Business Meetinq The Womens Auxiliary of the Episcopal church held their regu lar monthly business meeting at the parish house Monday night. During the business meeting the president appointed the com mittees to take charge of the Junior-Senior banquet to be given by the auxiliary in May. The program for the evening consisted of two vocal solos "Walking In The Garden" and "Whispering Hope" by Mrs. Rob ert Gammel and Mrs. Jack Mar shall accompanied by Mrs. Loula Bengtson. Johnny Wayne John son small son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson of Condon sang "God Bless Us All". Members in attendance were Reverend John Reeves and Mes dames Claude Graham, Robert Penland, Luola Bengtson, Jack Marshall, John Pfeiffer, P. W. Mahoney, E. K. Schaffitz, La Verne Van Marter, Archie Ball, Robert Gammell, Stephen Thomp son, Grace Nickerson, James Thomson, Floyd Adams, R. B. Rice, Joe Nys, Lucy Peterson and Misses Donna Neal, and Nancy Adams. Guests were Mrs. Frank Johnson, Johnny Wayne and Roger, and Mrs. Giles Parman and Sharon of Condon. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. Ethel Adams and Nancy Adams.' o Bridge Club Meets At Thomson Home Mrs. James Thomson enter tained the "What's Trumps" bridge club at her home Thurs day April 8. Members present were Mes dames Oscar George, L. D. Tib bies, Leonard Schwarz, Raymond Ferguson, P. W. Mahoney, Step hen Thompson, Robert Penland. Earl Blake, Emile Groshens, Har old Cohn and Tom Wilson. Mrs. Stephen Thompson re. ceived high score for the evening Mrs. Wilson second, Mrs. George third and Mrs. Schwarz low. A. Rug gles and Mrs. Lester Cox of Lexington. Mrs. Floyd Adams was in charge of the program for the day. Shannon Mahoney played two piano numbers, Swanee River and the Unfinished Symphony. Judy Cochcll. Vicki Barger, Joanne Collins, and Carol Anderson played their ukeleles and sang several numbers, among them Happy Birthday to the club. Each member brought a baby picture of herself and these were on display. A large decorated birthday cake was served by Mrs. W. O. George and Mrs. M. R. Wightman. A special bulletin, prepared by Mrs. W. O. George, was dis tributed. This bulletin gave the highlights and special happen ing of the club for the six years it has been organized. Robert Clark of Portland also was a guest. n Dinner Party Honors Seventeenth Birthday Darrell Drake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Blake celebrated his seventeenth birthday with a dinner party at the home of his parents Saturday night. Guests were Bill Hughes, David Cox and Ralph Marlatt. Roseann Avers. Secretary's report was read and approved. Some of us cut out the first blouse while Janice worked on a shirt. Meeting was adjourned and I refreshments were served by the ' cooking club members. All members and leader was present. Mrs. Ray Avers was the only visitor. ; The next meeting will be at Roseann Avers' home, April 1.1 i Janice Martin, reporter THE HOMEMAKERS The lloniemakers girls met on March 31 at the home of Louise Bolts. At a previous meeting we decided on the name "The Tidy Girls" for our group. Dorothy Vinson joined our club and we now have nine members. We discussed patterns and pattern transfers for our dresser scarfs and wall hangings. Oui leader showed us how to pull the thread on our material so wo u ill cut our things straight. We played several games which Louise directed, then she served refreshments. Dora Sue Davidson, Scribe lections for the 1!I"1 summer school. It will be held at Oregon Slate College on June la to 25. Morrow County's quota is 32 4-H members. In selecting the 11)51 delegates the committee took into consideration the rules that have been used for the past lour years in selecting delegates from this county. They are: that the club member selected must he 13 years of age. must have success fully completed 2 years of club work, and have completed all projects enrolled in the year be fore his consideration as a dele gate. With 52 club members to select 20 delegates from this made a difficult job for the com mittee. Many club members were equal in experience and activities that qualified them for summer school. The quota of 32 is to he divided between North Morrow County and South Morrow County. Selections will be acted upon by the South Morrow I II Council at their regular meeting on April 15.
