Fredrick Martin was re-elected president of the P-TA at a meet ing Wednesday March 24. Other officers elected were Mrs. Claude Riley, vice president ; and Mrs. Noel Dobyns, secretary and treasurer. A highlight of the program that evening were slides and a talk by Howard Saucy of Dundee and an exchange student to France through the I. F. Y. E. Nels Anderson of Heppner intro duced Mr. Saucy. Mrs. Franklin Ely introduced students that took part in the speech festival in Boardman. They gave their readings to the P-TA audience. They were Peggy Botts, John Howton and Melvin Martin. Mrs. Alfred Nelson had charge of the program. At the business meeting, the change in the By-laws was adopt ed, the question of obtaining a county nurse was discussed. Mrs. Wallace Matthews and Mrs. Lloyd Howton were chosen to get in contact with those who could go to Salem to the State conven tion April 21 to 23 as delegates. The 7th and 8th grade room re ceived the largest room count per centage. Rev. Alfred Shirley gave the benediction and the flag salute was given by all. President Fredrick Martin told of the short age of teachers throughout the country. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. David Riet mann, Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom. Mrs. Davirj Baker, Mrs. Ralph Crum and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan. Willows Grange members plan to attend the Community church in a body Sunday April 4. Invitations have been received here to the 50th wedding anniver sary of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Waters in South Gate. Calif., April 18. The Waters were former residents here and in Heppner. He was a former clerk of Morrow county. Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Shirley were visitors in The Dalles last week where they attended the reunion of the Men's Chorus of which Mr. Shirley was a member. Mrs. Grace Ware loft Friday of last week for Washington where she will visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Crumb at Morton and friends at Olympia. The, Morrow County Grain Growers are building new storage space on the elevator here. Fredrick Martin left for Port land Monday where he will at tend a Methodist church meeting on camp sites and other board meetings. Mrs. Delia Corson is visiting in Portland. Mrs. Arvilla Swanson left for Milwaukie Monday to be with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Lundell who is ill. Rev. Ed Svendson of Corvallis conducted services at the Val by Lutheran church in Goose berry Sunday. He was accom panied by. Rodger Lindquist. Mrs. Bertha Burton, Associate Grand Conductress of the Eastern Star of Oregon, held the school of instruction at the Locust Chapter Saturday. The meeting was pre- ceeded by a luncheon at the home of Omar and Elaine Riet mann. Those present wert Mrs. Bertha Burton; Mrs. Amabel McMillan, worthy matron; Mrs. Mary Lind say, past worthy matron; Walter Dobvns, worthy patron; Lewis and Dot Halvorsen; Mrs. Thelma Smethhurst; Mrs. June O'Connor; Mrs. Esther Dobyns; Mrs. Mary Swanson; Mrs. Margaret Blake; Mrs. Katherine Lindstrom; Mrs. Helen Proudfoot; Mrs. Ida Es teb, Mrs. Dorothy Smith; Mrs. Katy Padberg; Mrs. Ann Berg strom and Mrs. Lena Lundell. Mrs. Burton was an overnight guest at the Sam McMillan home Friday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Esteb are the parents of a daughter born at Pioneer Memorial hospital March 24. Weight 7 lbs. 4 oz. Mis. Jane Prather is the grandmother and Mrs. Ellen Sproul is the great grandmother, both of Battle ground, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Tye and son and Billie and Mildred See hafer of Bickleton, Wash . spent Sunday at the Waller t'orley home. R. A. Horton of Astoria showed films at the Community church Saturday evening of plant and animal life. This was sponsored bv the Garden club. Mrs. Ernest Heliker introduced Mr. Horton and Mrs. Roland Bergstroni led in some of the songs of the club. Mr. and Mrs. Horton spent the week end with their daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin. Mrs. J. V. Hanson and son. Herb. if Portland spent the week end with their daughter and sis ter, Mrs. Donald Peterson. Mrs. Jane Prather and Mrs. El len s'proul of Battleground. Wash, are visiting at the home of their daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Archie Esteb. Know Your Librarv Week was climaxed with a very successful, silver tea Thursday at the library by the women of the Topic club. Cookies, tea, and coffer were ser ved from a table decorated with a green table cloth, daffodils and yellow candles. Mrs. Fannie Grif fith and Mrs. Noel Dobyns poured. They were assisted by Mrs. Roy Lindstrom and Mrs. Echo Palmateer. Books added to the public lih-i rary are Youngun by Besi ; Caval-! cade of Comedy by Kroneberger;! I Around 75 people were served' at the American Legion banquet I at the cafetorium at the school house Saturday evening. The food was served bv the Marana-; itha club and young girls waited' Ion the taldes. The tallies were decorated in the Legion colors of blue and gold, and daffodils. Row Alfred Shirley gave the benedic tion. Commander Donald Peter son thanked the Maranatha club for serving the banquet; and sev eral vocal duets were sung by Larry Rietmann and Dennis Swanson, accompanied by Gene Rietmann. The banquet was fol lowed by the annual spring dance at the Legion hall with Riet mann's orchestra furnishing the music. The Beta Omega Chapter of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority met at the Legion hall Thursday March 25 where they played pin ochle. Those winning scores were Mr. and Mrs. Loron Leathers, high and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Corley second high. Their filled cedar chest was won by ' Robert Riet mann at the Legion dance Satur day evening. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Walter Corley, Mrs. David McLeod. Mrs. Pete Cannon, Mrs. Ted Palmateer, Mrs. Donald McElligott and Mrs. Den ward Bergevin. Ilclmuth Hermann, student at the I'niversity of Oregon Denial j school in Portland spent his; spring vacation with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. G. Hermann. i Mr. and Mrs. Art Farance of. They just returned from a three weeks trip through the southwest. They also visited the Jerry Bolman's in San lose, Calif. Funeral services were held for .Mrs. I.enora Rivers in Portland on March 25. She was a former resi dent in this community and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Douglas and one son, Alfred Rivers. Polly Palmer of Pendleton and Patrick Doherty. son of Mrs. Rose Dohertv were married in Bonne v ille Friday, March 2(. Visitors last week at the Gar land Swanson home were her sis ters, Mrs. Katherine Brown and son, Cassie, and Miss Lena Miller. Miss Miller remained for a longer visit at the Swanson home.
