Total sales In September were $2,509,401. Morrow county sales last month amounted to $12,962. Carter pointed out that a na tional level a definite improve ment has been noticeable during the past nine months. "Sales are up 24 per cent over last year, and redemptions are down. Purchases of large denomination bonds the $500 and $1,000 bonds have increased considerably and rever sed the steady three and one-half year downward trend. Over 75 per cent of the $8 billion in ma tured series E bonds are still being held by the owners under the Treasury's optional ten-year extension plan. "The great volume of individ ual pieces of series E bonds was sold during the first nine months of this year since the end of the World War II," Carter continued, "and H bond sales climbed 20 per cent over last year's. There are now 84 million people buy ing bonds on the payroll savings plan, a gain of three-fourths of a million workers over 1952."
