Max Buschkes Have 25th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Max Buschke ob served their silver wedding anni versary with a dinner and family gathering, Sunday, May 31st, for which Mr. and Mrs. Sam Steers and Elmer Steers were hosts at their country home in the Rhea Creek district. Forty-five members of the fam ily and friends were present for the occasion. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Nick Feh- imerling, Mrs. Martha Brown, Miss 'Mary Moore, Bus Travis of Rose jburg; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hyle and daughter, Sally, Portland; I Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buschke and daughter, Phyllis, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Karl and son, Dick of Yakima, Wash, The table was centered with the traditional three tiered wed ding cake decorated in silver and white. Bouquets of white snow ball and red Peonies were used effectively about the rooms. All Saints Auxiliary Has Annual Birthday Party on Saturday A large crowd enjoyed the an nual birthday luncheon given by the All Saint's Episcopal auxil-j iary Saturday afternoon June b. The individual tables were cen tered with flowers and other flower arrangements were used around the room. Cards were enjoyed after the luncheon hour, with prizes in bridge going to Mrs. Raymond Ferguson, high; Mrs. Orville Smith, second high and Mrs. Fred Parrish, low. In pinochle high was won by Mrs. Willard Blake, second by Mrs. Cleve Van Scho iack and low by Mrs. Pearl De-vine. Departing Teachers Given Luncheon The personnel and teachers of the Heppner school held a fare well luncheon Friday, May 29 at the school to honor Leonard L. Pate and several other members of the faculty who are leaving the system. . E. J. Dobbie, vice principal of the high school, acted as master of ceremonies for the luncheon and called on various members of the group for short talks. Gifts were presented to Mr. Pate by a member of the physical educa tion department, and by Mrs. Marie Clary who represented the other members of the group. The no-host luncheon was ser ved by the home economics de partment, and the tables were at tractively decorated with season al flowers. Bookworms Meet At Turner Home Tuesday Mrs. J. O. Those in the class were Rev. J. Palmer Sor lien, Mrs. Leslie D. Grant, Miss Meredith Ann Sorlien, Robert Dobbs and Miss Maryanne Jensen for Sans Souci and Mrs. Ray Papineau and Mrs. Maynard Struthers for Holly Rebekah Lodge for Lexington. A large number of Lexington Rebekahs were present for the meeting as well as visitors from the Hermiston and Warrenton lodges. Hostesses for the evening in cluded Mrs. Rufus Piper, Mrs. C. II. II I W Columbia Power Sets Board Meet At Monument June8 Soroptimist Club Holds Business Meet The Soroptimists held their monthly business meeting at their luncheon at O'Donnell's on Thursday June 4. It was reported a cablegram had been sent to the club .at Tarn worth England sending best wishes on the coronation of their queen, from the Heppner club. Achlen in Grants Pass. Mrs. Dinges spent the past two weeks with the Ack- lens and attending the gradua tion of her granddaughter, Ruth ann, from Grants Pass high school. Ruthann received the school's award for the outstanding stu dent in vocal music and sang a solo at the Bccalaureate service. She has been awarded the music scholarship by Willamette Uni versity, where she plans to go to school next fall. By Millie Wilson Manager Ben M. Spain of the Columbia Power Co-operative As sociation calls attention to the fact that the regular board meet ing will be held at the office of l he Columbia Power Co-op Assn. in Monument Monday June 8. Plans and Specifications for Sec. V the GflKV line from Pilot Rock to Ukiah, plus a 2(XX) KVA substation at Ukiah, will be re viewed and a possible bid open ing, set for the latter part of June. This line and substation will feed everything south and west of Ukiah to Monument, Ore. If qualified bids are received at this bid letting, construction will be completed this fall. Lois Hill took her mother, Doris Capon to John Day last Thursday for a medical checkup. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Sweek and sons of Heppner spent the week end with Mr. Sweek's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Sweek. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans of Heppner were dinner guests of Mr .and Mrs. Dell Neal on Sun day. Mrs. Boyd has sold her home on the river and has moved into the house on the Fred Page ranch below town. The name of the new owner was not learned by the writer. June 2nd Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round drove to Mitehel to meet their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Round. They brought their two grandsons, Ronnie and Donnie home with them Wednesday. Mrs. Floyd Fergersen of Day ville met her mother in rendleton May 30th. She was accompanied on the trip by Mamie Fergesen, Mr. and Mrs. Art Williams and Harry Williams. Little Miss Linda Batty is spending her vacation at Maupin with her uncle, Frank Batty. Fred Roach of the Ritter area was visiting in Monument last Friday. Rufus Bible of Fox visited rela tives and friends in Monument this week. From here he plans to go to Portland, Ed Enright who passed away in the Pendletbn hospital June 2 was buried in the Pendleton cemetery June 5th. Mrs. Wanda Sexton and two children of Clastkanie will spend their summer vacation on the Lewis Batty ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Granis and Jan of Alameda, Calif., stopped to visit Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Van Dusen of Top, Ore., but due to the muddy roads they were unable to net to the Van Dusen ranch and due to poor telephone lines were unable to call them. Joe Batty drove to Heppner last Saturday for a load of lumber and sheetrock for diet Brown. The Browns will move into their new home next Wednesday. They recently purchased it from Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lesley. Elmer Mat teson will remodel and finish up some of the rooms before they move. Bob Seott of Top accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Matteson to Heppner for Memorial Day. There was a family reunion held at the home of Mamie Fer- 'gersen May 31st. Those present to enjoy the dinner were Mrs. rer gersen's two children, her daugh ter and husband Mr. and Mrs. Art Williams of Kansas City, her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fere-esen of Davville, her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs, Bill Foss of Boise, her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round of Monument, Mr. and Mrs. George Stirritt, Laura Lee Shank, Mr. Harry Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Holmes and son.
