Thomas of the department of education at Salem, spoke to the Soroptimist club at their noon luncheon April 23 at O'Donnell's. They told of their work with children with speech defects, and what is being done to help them. During the speech clinic they are able to see about 24 children during a day. 'Also on the program were Lt. Pribble and Airman Mock of the Portland filter center. They showed a film on the need for ground observers and the good they can do. Guests of the club were Miss Martha Tananainen, county health nurse, Mrs. Edward Schaf fitz and Mrs. Mary Carter of Jutland. Ingrid Hermann Sets Wedding Date Mr. and Mrs. Gotfried Hermann: lone announce the wedding date of their daughter Ingrid Luise to Harlan Paul Crawford as Sunday, May 10 at 3:00 p. m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermiston. Friends and neighbors are cor dialy invited and personal invi tations are being sent to relatives only. A reception will follow the cere mony at the church parlors. ; Saturday Card Club Met At Gertson Home l Mrs. Clara B. J. Chaf- fee, Mrs. Madge Bryant, Mrs. Mary Wright. Pinochle was played after dinner with high score being received by Mrs. De vine and low by Miss Bergstrom. Crusaders' Class Gives Stork Shower Following the regular business meeting Monday evening, the Crusaders' Class of the Christian church entertained with a stork shower complimenting Mr. and Mrs. Martin R. Hildebrand. Mr, and Mrs. Ray McNabb were hosts for the party at their home on W Batimore street. Present were Mrs. Earl Soward, Mr. and Mrs. Marciel Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peck, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker, Mrs. Fred Hoskins, Jr., Mrs. Frances Mit chell and Mrs. Dick Borman. Mrs. Peck was assistant hostess SQUARE DANCE SATURDAY The H. E. C. of the Rhea Creek Grange is sponsoring a square dance Dartv Saturday evening May 2 at the Rhea Creek grange hall. Fair pavilion. Textile Painting Shown At Party Mrs. John W. Farra entertained with a party Thursday evening at her home on N. Main street for the members of the Degree of Honor textile painting class. As sisting, was Mrs. Rufus Piper. Mrs. Carl Vincent gave a de monstration of freehand textile painting and Mrs. William Heath demonstrated a more accurate method of cutting multiple sten cils. Those present included Mrs Clara B. Gertson, Mrs. Ernie Win chester and daughter, Erna Lynn, Mrs. Alvie Casebeer, Mrs. R. G McMurtry, Mrs. William Heath, Mrs. Carl Vincent, Mrs. Ervin Anderson, Mrs. Frank Connor, Mrs. Jesse C. Payne, Mrs. Owen Leathers, Jr. and the hostesses, Refreshments were served. Delta Kappa Gamma Entertains Senior Girls at Buffet Delta Kappa Gamma members entertained the senior girls and their sponsor with a buffet dinner Wednesday evening at the home of Margaret Cason who is the chairman of the committee on selective recruitment of teachers. Two readings, "Miss Annie's Asleep" and "Why I like teach ing" were given by Mrs. Lucy Rodgers. The girls entered sev eral contests of skill and the win ners were Rita Cox, Patricia Peck, and Patricia Albert. 1 Guests were: Mrs. Luola Bengt- son, Patricia Peck, Rita Cox, Bil- lie Jean Privett, Patricia Albert, Meredith Ann Sorlein, Beth Ball Fern Biddle, Florence Elde, Mary Ann Jensen, Betty Moyer and Janice Prock. Soward, Tastor Bible School at 9:45 a. m C. W. Barlow, Supt. The Crusader class will have charge of the service of the Bible School. Morning Worship at 11 a. m. Mr. Robert Kendall of the North west Christian College will be guest speaker for the morning service. Evening Service at 7:30 p. m. with the pastor bringing the mes sage. Monday afternoon at 2 p. m. the executive committee of the Christian Women's Fellowship will hold their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Marcel Jones. Tuesday evening the East Ore gon Convention of the Christian Churches will begin their 3 day convention at Pendleton. BIBLE TALKS Misses Grace Ploegsma and Maxine Hanks have announced that the next meeting in their series of Bible Talks will be held Sunday at 3:00 p. m. These meet ings are held at the Civic Center in Heppner. Ten Foreign Youths Will Visit Oregon Farms This Summer Oregon will be host this sum mer to 10 International Farm Youth exchangees from other countries who will live, work and play as members of local farm families during a three-months visit in the state. Farm families interested in having one of the young men ox women 18 to28 years of age live with them for four to six weeks this summer should con tact their county extension agent for application forms and ad ditional information, according to Cal Monroe, state 4-H agent at Oregon State College. Each of the ten foreign farm youths will live with two or three .Oregon families during the sum mer. They will be expected to work for their room and board and a small allowance. Farm families having young persons living at home will receive preference. Two Oregon youths are now overseas and three more are sche duled to leave in June for six months under the International youth exchange. The IFYE pro gram is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from civic, farm youth groups and others. A recent contribution to Ore gon's IFYE fund was $195 raised by Linn county 4-H club members and presented in an April radio broadcast over KOAC at Oregon State college. Marilyn Chandler, 17, Albany, was chairman of the delegation of four 4-H'ers who presented the donation raised through candy and food sales, box socials, a "cake walk", sale of old rags and pop bottles and other money-making projects.
