The lone Public Library has received the book "The Pony Ex press" by Adams, the first in a series; they will receive in the Young Readers of America book flub. Introduction to Western Birds by Paca, Birds of America by Audubon also have been ad ded. The Eastern Star social club had a very successful card party Saturday evening. Those winning prizes were, in bridge, Mrs. E. R. Lundell and Omar Rietmann high, and Mrs. Omar Rietmann low. In pinochle, Mrs. Harlan Mc Curdy, Jr., high and Mrs. Ed Bus chke and C lea Drake, low. Lewis Halvorsen received the door prize. I Sandwiches, potato salad, pie and coffee were served alter .ine games. I An athletic banquet and dance were given at the school Friday night of last week. Marion Tal mcr and L. L. Howl on gave talks !at the banquet. The food was served by the girls of the high school. Mrs. Harry Yarnell returned home Monday after visiting at the home of her son Clifford Yar nell in Vancouver, Wash. Alecia Swales of Hermiston spent the weekend with her grand father, Henry Clark. The social meeting of the Topic club was held at the home of Mrs. Harlan MeCurdy Friday March 28 with Mrs. Roland Bergstrom and Mrs. O. L. Lundell as co-hostesses. Pinochle and bridge were played. Those winning prizes were: in pinochle, Mrs. Verner Troedson high and Mrs. Milton Morgan low. In bridge Mrs. E. R. i.imden hicrh and Mrs. Dixon Smith low. A dessert luncheon preceded the meeting, i Mrs. Fannie Griffith entertain ed the Three Links club at her home Friday of last week with Mrs. Echo Palmateer as co-hostess. After the business meeting games were played. Mrs. Cecil Thome received the door prize. Jimmie Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Baker, underwent a tonsileetomy at the hospital in Heppner last week. The Arnica club met at the Community Church Wednesday of last wek. Games were played and those winning prizes were: Mrs. Earl McKinney and Mrs. Mrs. Gordon White. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Milton Mor gan and Mrs. Raymond Lundell. Charles Chick of Portland visit ed here last week. Mr, Chick is a land owner in this community. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Lundell, Mrs. Arvilla Swanson and Mrs. Fannie Griffith attended a bene fit card party at the I. O. 0. F. hall in Lexington Thursday even ing of last week. Omar Rietmann received a let ter from Bert Mason of Oak Grove saying that Mrs. Helen Woollery Knappenberg of Portland fell and broke her hip and hurt her ankle last week. She is in the Good Samaritan hospital room 450 in Portland. Miss Gladys Breshears of Los I Angeles is visiting her parents, 'Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray. The Rays are moving to meir nome in lone this week. j Mr. and Mrs. John Ransier ofj Unity were visitors here over the weekend. Their son Gene is doing j weed spraying here. He spent the winter in Arizona. I Mrs. Claude Riley gave a party 'Saturday March 28 in honor of jher son, Val's 6th birthday. Those j present were Stephen and Susan Lindstrom, Tim and Mark Tullis, Elaine Gaarsland, Sherry and Billy Corley, Bobby and Monty Crum, Marjorie O'Connor, Fran ces McLeod, Marilee Leathers, Jimmy Baker, Junior Allen, and Arleta McCabe and Val and Mich ael Riley. Mothers present were Mrs. Gary Tullis, Mrs. Ralph Crum, Mrs. Howard Crowell and Mrs. Merle Baker. Games were played and those winning prizes were Stephen Lindstrom and Jun ior Allen. A circus birthday cake was served. Patients in the Heppner hos pital from here are: Mrs. Bethena Lord, Kay Crowell and Mrs. H. 0. Ely. Mrs. Ted Palmateer and Mrs. Loren Leathers returned home from the hospital last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Christopher son and children of Wasco spent Sunday at the Wallace Matthews home. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom attended the Charles McElligott funeral in Portland last week. Mrs. Roland Bergstrom accom panied them and visited her par ents. Miss Ruby Ann Rietmann was on the honor roll last term at the E. O. C. E. Miss Shirley McGreer, student at St. Helens hall in Portland, Is visiting at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Verner Troed son. Duane Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker, was among the top winners to receive a state award in the County livestock 4 H clubs. Those entering service soon are Ross Doherty, son of Mrs. Rose Doherty will go in the Army and Bruce Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Smith, will enter the Air Force. Mrs. Robert DeSpain and son Bobby Lee, spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lieuallen at Gresham. Mrs. Mary Emert and daughter, Mrs. Blanche Willis are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bee cher Emert in Tennessee. The 6th annual spring dance at the Legon hall was well at tended. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pettyjohn and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Keith ley of Heppner are the grand parents. Janet Howton, Grace McCabe and Lee Palmer attended the Wranglers club at Neal Beamers' Sunday. Mrs. Marion Falmer and Mrs. Earl McKinney were Pendleton visitors last week. , Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker went to Pendleton Monday.
