toper SECTION TWO Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, October 9, 1952 lone P-IA Hears Bradley Fancher By Echo Palmateer Bradley Fancher, District Attor ney of Morrow county gave a talk on juvenile delinquency at the P-TA meeting at the school house Tuesday evening Sept. 30. Berl Akers, chairman of the school board told of the progress of the new school building program. , Other numbers on the program was a skit on the National Parent Teachers magazine. Mrs. Helen Weitemier read an article on the magazine. Mrs. Noel Dobyns had charge of the program. Harlan Mc McCurdy, P-TA president, thanked all those who helped make the teachers reception a success. The third and fourth grades won the prize by having the most parents present. Refreshments were ser ved in the lunch room by Mrs. Marion Palmer, Mrs. Harold Sher er Mrs. L. A. McCabe. Mrs. Bruce Keene, Mrs. Darrell Padberg and Mrs. Phil Emert. The tables were decorated with flowers and fruit. Mr .and Mrs. -Wayne Melott of Forest Grove stopped at the Franklin Ely home Friday of last week. They were on their way to Iowa on a business trip. Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Crawford are the parents of a daughter, An ita Marie born Oct. 3 & The Dalles weight 6 lbs. and 14 oz. Mr. and Mrs Wate Crawford and Mrs. Franklin Ely are the grandpar ents and Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Ely and Mrs. Dora Pierrot are the great grand parents. Susan Baker, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Baker, fell at her home Tuesday of last week and broke her fore arm. Mrs. Victor Peterson and daugh ter, Sally spent the weekend at the Victor Rietmann home. A birthday party was held after the regular meeting of the Re bekahs at their hall Thursday evening Oct. 2. Cake and ice cream and coffee were served and gifts were presented to those hav ing birthdays the past three months. The Bunch Grass Rebe kah will exemplify the degree work at the district convention in Heppner Oct. 11. They plan to meet with the Lexington lodge at Lexington Oct. 16 when Olive Ramey, president of the Rebekah Assembly will be there to make her official visit. They visted all points of interest In Washington. D. C. New York City, West Point, and also went up into Canada. They flew to Chi cago, from here and went to De troit where the Morgans pur chased a car. They visited Mrs. Morgan's cousin, Mrs. L. W. Perry in Lima, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo McMillan of Salem are visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Swan- son. Mr. McMillan is doing some deer hunting. Mrs. Anne Smouse, Miss upai Brigg, Mrs. Minnie Forbes and Mrs. Lucile Owens of Heppner were lone vistors Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rowell re turned home from Portland last week. Melvin Martin is delivery boy for the East Oregonian here. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Miller ana son, Paul, of Morgan spent Sun day evening at the Frederick Martin home. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer were Pendleton visitors Wednes day of last week. Mrs. Walter Dobyns and Mrs. Sam Esteb entertained the mem bers of the Eastern Social Club at the Masonic hall Wednesday afternoon Oct. 1. Pinochle was played and Mrs. Walter Corley won high score and Mrs. Jomes Lindsay low. Truman Cannon of Portland visited at the home of his bro ther Pete Cannon one day last week. He just returned from a trip to California and Nevada. Members of the Garden Club planted more Iris in the city park last week. Mrs. Wm. Pering returned home from Portland last week. Mrs. Sadie Olson, who has been visiting relatives here, returned to her home in Spokane this week. She was accompanied by ner pro ther, Fred Ely. She also visited her brother and sister-in-law. Mr and Mrs. Charles Ely In Coos Bay. Mrs. Harrv O'Donnell of Hepp ner and Mrs. Ted Palmateer were visfiors in The Dalles Friday ot last week. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely and family of Boardman visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. 0. Ely one day last week. Elvin is re covering from burns he received last summer. Mrs. Harry Yarnell returned home Monday of last week from Vancouver and Portland. Mrs. Roland Bergstrom returned home from Portland Sunday where she was with her mother, Mrs. Lee Marcum who is a pat ient in a hospital there following a major operation. Mrs. Wm. Bergstrom is vistiing relatives in Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Barnett and son Kieth of Grass Valley spent the weekend at the home oi hpr sister. Mrs. Earl McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom and sons Dick and Roland and Larry Rietmann spent the week end in Portland where they took in the O. S. C. and Michigan game and also the Pacific International stock show. Mr. and Mrs. Art Dalzell and daughter, Wilma are leaving Tuesday for Hollywood, Calif., where Wilma will enter the Cali fornia Air College. Mrs. Edith McClintock and son Bill are leaving this week' for Funca, Nebraska to visit relatives. They will also visit other places in the mid-west and east. Joel Barnett of the U. S. Navy at Seattle visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barnett recently. Eight children are now enrolled in the nursery school held In the basement of the Community church each Tuesday and Thurs day 9:30 to 11:30 a. m. Mrs. Charles O'Connor is chairman, Mrs. Robert DeSpaln, secretary and Mrs. E. Gerhke treasurer.
