Meyers raised the pigs on Terralac, the synthetic sow's milk which is effective because it contains terra mycin, and fed them pig starter with a high level of terramycin to bring them to the championship weight. The litter is expected to weigh more than 2 tons at 6 months. Before the synthetic milk was discovered last year, a 6-months' weight of 1 ton was regarded as near perfection. A party was given Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Ely in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary after the Rebekah lodge meeting Thurs day evening June 19. Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn sang 'Oh, Promise Me' and Mrs. Ernest Heliker gave a reading, 'The Bashfur Wooer' Mrs. Mary Swanson presented them with a gift from the lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and children returned from Salem last week where they visited re latives. They brought their daughter, Linda, home with them and also Janet, Judy, and Alice Kay Mason of Portland came home with them. Janet has been visiting at the Clara Kincaid home. Mr. and Mrs. Hershall Town send and children and her mo ther, Mrs. Ella Bleakman of Hep pner, were recent visitors in Port land where they attended the Ice Follies. Mrs. Harry Yarnell is spending a few days in Portland and Van couver, Wash. Mrs. Lana Padberg was a re cent visitor in Portland. Gus Jannsen returned last week from San Francisco where he visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. George Hannel of Mt. Hood visited friends here and at Morgan last week. Mrs. Han nel is the former Irene Devin, and a former resident in this com munity. She and her husband have the post office at Mt. Hood. Guests at the Delia Corson home one day last week were Mrs. J. L. Jones of Portland and Mrs. John Blake and Mrs. Earl Blake of ; Bureau met at the homo of David Heppner. Baker Tuesday evening June 17. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carlson Henry Baker showed throe travel have returned from Salem where logues on Florida, Egypt and the they visited his parents who are both patients in the Salem Me morial hospital there. The elder Mrs. Carlson recently underwent a major operation, and he is quite ill. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Everson and son, Gary of Portland are visiting at the Charles Carlson home. Mrs. Everson was a for mer teacher in the lone schools. Mr. and Mrs. Robert DoSpain and son, Bobby Lee, returned on Sunday evening from their vaca tion. They visited his sister Mrs. Ralph Stiener at Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ellis at Vale, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lieul len at Gresham, Mr. and Mrs. David Raskin in Portland and friends at Terrebone. Mrs. Marion Palmer and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn entertained the Arnica club at the Palmer home June 18. Door prizes were received by Mrs. Milton Morgan and Mrs. E. W. Bristow. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker went to Hermiston one day last week and visited a short time with their daughter Mrs. Ivan Orten and then went to Walla Walla after strawberries. Henry Gorger is spending a week at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. David Baker. He report ed .72 inches of rain fell in Pen dleton Friday of last week. .08 inches fell at the Baker ranch. Truman Cannon and a friend from Tortland and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cannon were guests at the David Baker home Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holtz re turned from their honeymoon trip Saturday. Mrs. Omar Rietmann is 3 pa tient in the Pioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner following a major operation. Mrs. Florence Henning is a patient in the hospital in Hepp ner. Miss Jaunita Morgan left Mon day to visit relatives in Oak Grove, Salem and Seattle. Merle Baker returned home from the Heppner hospital last week. Mrs. Gladys Cutsforth and Don aid Heliker were married at the Baptist church in Walla Walla on Saturday evening June 21. They will be at home at the Heliker ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson returned from Eugene last week where they attended the gradua tion exercises of their son Clif ford ( from the University of Ore gon. Wallace Coleman left Thursday of last week for Seattle where he is stationed in the U. S. Navy. He expects to be shipped over seas soon. Harlan Crawford took him to Seattle. The Maranatha Club took in $50 on a food sale Saturday at the Swanson store. This money will go toward some project at the Co-operative church. He re ceived this scholarship at La Grande this spring when he got a superior rating on his cornet solo. John Hughes is a patient in the Heppner hospital.
