Melena and Julie Kietmann are visiting in Eugene this week. lone lost to Fossil in their base ball game Sunday 3-11. This is the first game they have lost. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin and family of Hermiston and Lowell Clark of Ordnance were visitors at the Henry Clark home last week. Lowell just returned from a trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thomas plan to leave by pane from Pendleton Sunday June 8 for Chicago where they will purchase a car and make a tour through the South. Mr. and Mrs John Ray of The Dalles are the parents of a son Robert Allen, born May 28. Mrs. Lena Ray of Lexington Is the grandmother. Weekend visitors at the Mary Swanson home were her son. Norman Swanson and family of Portland. They also visited at the Garland Swanson home. Ann Richardson accompaied them. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hawk and children Alan and Lois of Trout- dale spent the week end here with relatives. Walter and Noel Dobyns and Roy Lindstrom returned home the first of the week from Canada where they werjt on a fishing trip. Lyle Kincaid, of the blind school at Salem, is spending the summer with his mother, Mrs, Ruby Nichols, Mrs. Mattie Morgan, Mrs. Ear- lene Williams, and John Sanders of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morgan and daughter of Albany visited relatives here over the weekend. (Mrs. Wate Crawford and Mrs. Harry Yarnell entertained the Birthday Club at the Crawford home Saturday. Mrs. Ida Cole man and Mrs. Donald Ball were the honorees. Mj. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen are the parents of a daughter born at Pendleton May 31. Weight 8 Two Lynx Killed Near Monument By Millie Wilson Mrs. Theo Owing had a very thrilling experience last week when Khe shot and killed a big Lynx cat near her home. Something had been robbing all her turfcey nests and had killed four turkey hens, one duck and several chickens. Thinking it was the work of a coon she set a trap. When she looked at her trap next morning she was fright ened to see the huge cat in the trap. She hurried home for the shot gun and to her surprise she killed it with the first blast, but fearing it might not be dead, she gave it the other barrel. It was only caught by one toe. It was a light tan In color with lbs. and 13 ozs. C. E. Lieuallen of Pendleton and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jepsen of lone are the grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ilynds of Pendleton are the great grandparents. light brown spots and black tas sels in its ears. It measured from its nose to the tip of its tail, 38 inches. I8V2 inches high and it weighed 20 pounds. It was an old cat and in poor condition.. In the next few days her neigh bor Jim Wedgeworth spotted a Lynx cat on his way to work. He decided he would go Mrs. Owing one better. He set his dog on the cat which immediately climbed a tree. Jim knocked it out of the tree with a rock, then killed it with a club. It was a much smaller and younger cat than the one killed by Mrs. Owing. Mr. and Mrs. Al Bishop and son of Portland spent Wednesday and Thursday of last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ca pon. Mrs. Bishop and Mrs. Capon are cousins. Mrs. Manila Jones and daugh ter Mrs. Virginia Ramsey of Prineville and Bend were over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Slim Owing last Thursday. On Friday they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lesley. Fred Page returned from Can ada last Thursday. He was met in Arlington by Dempsey Boyer. His sisters Margaret Elder of Pen dleton and Ivy Hadley of Fossil spent Memorial Day with him. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnard had as their dinner guests last Sun day, Miss Verla Mills, and Mr. Charles Dierenfie'.d, also Miss Charles Dierenfield, also .Miss Mills mother from Texas, Mr. Dierenfield is a student minister from Waterloo, Iowa, who will have charge of the Presbyterian church in Monument during the summer months. He will open Bible School Monday, June 1st Mrs. Effe Wedgeworth will assist as one of the teachers. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Cox and children drove to John Day last Monday to consult an optometrist concerning the eyes of their son, Stanley. Stanley is a pre-school child, but will enter school this fall. There are several new cars la town, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Forcest are driving a new pickup, George Gray and Stanley Cox have new cars. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Weinke and daughter of Pendleton were in Monument on Memorial Day. Mrs. Weinke will be remembered by her friends as Paralee Cochran. They returned home on iriday. The Cox family had a get to gether last Sunday when they all gathered at the home of Mr. ana Mrs. Archie Cox in Monument with a pot luck dinner. The pur pose of the meeting was to work at the cemetery and clean the graves for Memorial Day. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Cox and children of Monument, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cox and ctfild ren of Top; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cox and children of John Day; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cox of Gil more ranch; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mabe and children of Kinzua; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Corley and children of Hamilton; Lola and Floyd Wilson and Mr. Vincent of Hardman. Bill and Bubbles Gates were breakfast guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cupper last Wednesday morning. The Gates' are moving to Thane, Wyoming. Mrs. May de Ette Hinton was hostess at a dinner last Wednes day, May 28th, honoring her hus band, Boyd and Mrs. Doris Capon on their birthdays. The guests beside the family were Mr. and Mrs. George Capon and grand daughter, Kay Swick. A huge birthday cake with candles for both birthdays was served with the children singing happy birth day. Clarence Rickard left Wednes day for Portland to get his fam ily who have been visiting for the past week with relatives. Mrs. George Stirrit and daugh ter, Mrs. Fred Shank and her daughter Laura Lee Shank have moved to the ranch for the sum mer. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Andrus and son, from Pendleton spent Me modal Day with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Durst. Orval Johnson rode to the Wil li,.,) cumin rnnrh last Wednes day.
