Page 7 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, April 17, 1952 i Social Happening Churches Hold Easter Parties Saturday For Children and Mothers As has been the custom for many years, Easter parties were held Saturday afternoon at most of the local churches for the small fry and their mothers. At All Saints Episcopal Church the Sun day School faculty entertained with a picture show and an egg hunt for the youngsters and a tea for mothers. Assisting: Mrs Claude Graham, Sunday School superintendent, were Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. R. Stephen Thomp soil, Mrs. Harold Erwin, Mrs. Paul Brown, Mrs. P. W. Mahoney and Mrs. R. B. Rice. The Beginners and Primary De partments at the Christian Church, assisted by the junior choir, presented a program of recitations and songs followed by an egg hunt and refreshments for the children and a tea for the mothers. Mrs. E. R. Huston and Mrs. Earl Soward poured. Mrs. Theta Stratton, Mrs. Joe Hughes, Mrs. Clara B. Gertson and Mrs. Robert Walker were in charge of arrangements. Children of the Methodist Sun day school were entertained at a party and an egg hunt during the afternoon. o Canadian Guest Honored At Keene Home in lone Dinner guests April 9 at the Arthur Keene home at lone were Mrs. Jane Orchard and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mohr of Saskatoon, Sas katchewan, Canada, Mrs. Eliza beth Campbell and Mrs. Roy Campbell of Hermiston. Mrs. Or chard is a niece of Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell and Mrs. Keene. Call ers in the afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Keene, Loy and Kathy, Mrs. Ruth McCabe and Alvin and Grace. Farewell Dinner Given For Don Bennett Mr. and Mrs. Alex Thompson entertained with a farewell din ner Saturday evening honoring Don Bennett who is leaving April 20 for Hawthorn Nevada where he will be stationed at the Naval Supply Depot. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Don Hatfield of Lexington and Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Van Marter, Jr. Soroptimists Observe Fourth Anniversary The Soroptimist Club of Hepp ner celebrated its fourth anniver sary Thursday at a "Yesteryear Party" at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys on N. Court street. Members crime dressed in gowns that were considered "high style" in the Gay Ninties or in their wedding or graduation gowns. The evening was spent in remini scing over olden times, viewing old jewelry and mulling over old pictures and high school annuals. Mrs. Ethel Adams, newly elect ed member, was given the bone fit of initiation. Birthday cake was served in honor of those members who have had birthdays in the past three months. BIRTHDAY DINNER HELD TUESDAY Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rauch were hosts for a dinner Tuesday even ing at the Rendezvous Club near Hermiston, this being the occa sion of his birthday. Others pre sent were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Murchison and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wells. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Archie Padberg is announcing the engagement of his daughter Juanita to Frank K. Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Moore of Val lejo, California. Shrine Club Holds Easter Party Saturday Morrow Counry Shrine Club held its annual Easter party on Saturday evening at the Masonic Hall. A regular business meet ing was held prior to the social gathering. Bridge and pinochle were played with Mrs. J. O. Tur ner receiving high score in bridge and Mrs. Floyd Worden receiving high in pinochle. Refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Duvall and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ruggles. Committee members in charge of the entertainment were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Horn and Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Tibbies. Heppner Couple Wed In Lewiston Ceremony Coming as a surprise to friends was the marriage of Mrs. Mabel Burkenbine and Marion Hayden, both of Heppner, in Lewiston, Ida ho. At a 4 o'clock ceremony in the Episcopal church in Lewiston, Mrs. Burkenbine became the bride of Mr. Hayden with an Episcopal rector reading the wedding ser vice in the presence of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Drake. The bride wore a rose formal with lillies of the valley corsage. Alter a honeymoon spent in traveling, the couple will be at home in Mr. Hayden's house on North Gale street. Shower Honors Recent Bride Easter Sunday Party Held At Brown Home Easter dinner guests at the Paul Brown ranch on Willow creek were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth C. Peck, Martha and Steven and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Bunch, Jerry Sharron and Mike. The children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and movies were shown. A bridal shower was given last week for Mrs. Darrell McLachlan (Delores Keithley) at the home of her mother, Mrs. Howard Keith -ley on West Water street. Hostess es were Mrs. Robert Lovgren, Mrs. Archie Alderman and Mrs. Clyde Pettyjohn. Refreshments of angel cake and coffee were served. Attending besides the honoree and her mother were Mrs. Wick of Condon,Mrs. J. Palmer Sorlien, Mrs. Loyd Harshman, Mrs. Al Lovgren, Mrs. James Lovgren, Mrs. Marshall Lovgren, Mrs. Stan Kemp, Mrs. Harley Anderson, Mrs. Frank Andresen, Mrs. Harlan Mc Curdy, Mrs., Lee Scrivner, Mrs. E. R. Huston, Mrs. Alex Green, Mrs. James Healy, Mrs. Gene Fergu son, Mrs. Frank Wilkinson. Gifts were sent by sixteen others who were unable to attend. MRS. CHAFFEE HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. A. J. Chaffee was the honoree at a birthday dinner on Saturday evening for which Mrs. Clara B. Gertson was hostess at her home on S. Main street. Other guests were Mrs. Ethel Ziements and A. J. Chaffee.
