r Page 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, April 10, 1952 f Joint Rebekah-IOOF Meeting Planned to Observe Anniversary The Rebekah Degree was con ferred upon five candidates, Mrs. Gruee Nickerson, Mrs. Charles Beckett, Mrs. Frank Anderson, Mrs. Max Gentry and Miss Esther Bergstrom, at the regular meeting of Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge Fri day evening. Plans were made for a joint meeting with the Oddfellows on the evening of April 18 In obser vance of the 133rd anniversary of the founding of the Order which occurs on April 26. Tentative plans call for a potluck dinner at 6:30 p. m. for members and their families, a brief lodge session for Rebekah followed by program which will open to members and guests. The committee in charge of arrangements includes Mrs. M. N. Kirk, Mrs. Don Robinson, and Mrs. R. G. McMurtry for the Re bekahs and Manuel Easter, Ted Pierson and Robert Dobbs for the Oddfellows. The Charter was draped in memory of the late Mrs. Hattie Wightman. Participating in this ceremonial were Mrs. Elsie Ayers, Chaplain, Mrs. Jeanne Dobbs, Junior Past Noble Grand and Mrs. Ruth F. Payne, Noble Grand. Candle bearers included Mrs. Bea Barkla, Mrs. Melba Quackenbush Mrs. Kate Easter and Mrs. Naomi Moyer. Mrs. Lucy E. Rodgers was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Oma Cox. Mark Sanders was a visitor from out of the jurisdiction at Friday's meeting. AGENT FOR VAUGHAN'S ELECTRIC PENDLETON OES Social Club Meets Saturday The Social Club of the Order of the Eastern Star met Saturday evening April 5 in the Masonic hall. Cards were enjoyed and high honors for bridge went to Mrs. Loyal Parker and high in pinochle was won by W. A. Rug gles. Mrs. Parker also received the door prize. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Floyd Worden, W. A. Ruggles, Harry Duvall and Frank Davidson. o Episcopal Auxiliary Plans Card Party Plans for an Easter Monday card party were completed Thurs day afternoon at the home Mrs. Anna Bayless who was hostess for the meeting of the committee in charge. Present were Mrs. Floyd N. Adams, president of the Epis copal Auxiliary, sponsors of the party; Mrs. P. W. Mahoney and Mrs. F. W. Baker. Refreshments will be served buffet style at this party in a departure from the us ual custom. Homemade cakes will be given for first prizes in bridge and pinochle and worthwhile prizes will be given as consola tion prizes. The party is sche duled for April 14 at 8:00 o'clock in the evening at the Episcopal Parish house. o Episcopal Altar Guild Meets Monday The Altar Guild of All Saints Episcopal Church met Monday evening in the church vestry for its regular business meeting with Mrs. James J. Farley, directress, presiding. Mrs. Clarence Rose- wall was elected secretary-treasurer to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignatidti of Mrs. J. C. rayne. Present were Mrs. Blanche Brown, Mrs. E. L. Tull, Mrs. Lucy Peterson, Mrs. Rosewall and Mrs. Farley, plained that it was named for Narcissa Whitman, wife of Dr. Whitman, pioneer settler of the Whitman Mission near the pre sent site of the city of Walla Walla and that it is the second oldest Rebekah Lodge in the state of Washington. He also stated that Narcissa Lodge No. 2 is the largest Rebekah lodge west of the Mississippi with a membership of over 500.
