He was on his way to the stock yards in North Portland. Those from this community to i attend the R. E. A. meeting in Long Creek on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sweek, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bowman, Chance Wilson, Roy Cork, Clarence Holmes, Char les Raoch, Rho Bleakman, Stan ley Musgrave, Dempsey Boyer, Wilbur Flower and Wayne Irwin. Mr .and Mrs. Jack Sweek were attending to matters of business in Pendleton last Saturday, caroi Sweek cared for their children while they were away. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoskins and daughter Lucy, Mrs. Grace Stir- ritt, Mrs. Lola Shank and daugh ter. Laura Lee spent last Saturday shopping In John Day. Mrs. Wayne Leathers and daughter Deanna, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Cupper, Miss Evonne Stone man, Mrs. Clinta Mellor, and Lee Fleming drove to Prineville and Bend last week. Some consulted an Oculist while some of them had medical checkups. Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Settle are moving their household goods to Prineville this week. They have purchased a home in Prineville. Mrs. Settle took her little sister, Wanda Gray home with her. Bud Engle of Cottonwood left Sunday morning for Molalla. He went to be with his mother when his father has his operation in Portland next Wednesday. G. E. Jones, better known to his friends as Teddy Jones has been ill. George Stirritt took him to Prairie City last Wednesday to 'rom where I sit ... Little Wanda Gray, daughter of George Gray has been quite ill. She was taken to Prairie City by her father to consult a dactor. Wanda spent several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Settle. Her sister, Mrs .George Settle came from Prineville to be with her. Criss Hamilton took his mother, Mrs. Ella Durst to Pendleton to .consult a doctor and to get some glasses. They were accompanied by Mrs. Ivy Barnard. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round spent last Sunday in John Day at the home of Mrs. Round's mother, Mrs. Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Round were business visitors in Pendle ton last week.' Their sons, Ron nie and Donnie stayed with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round. George Gibbs of John Day was in Monument on Sunday. He had inspected the Holmes Brothers' calves which were being shipped to Prosser, Wash., by Morgan's Truck Line. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neal, Mrs. Belle Neal and Roy Leathers were business visitors in John Day on Tuesday. Mr. Robert Croft, principal of Monument high school, Mr. Ver non Peterman, principal of Monu ment grade school and Mr. Walter Miller, assistant High school teacher drove to Seneca last Mon day night to attend the School master's Club. This organization meets the first Monday in every month. The next meeting will be at Dayville. , Mr. and Mrs. Miles Gilman are moving their household goods from the Daisy Simas house in Monument to the Dell Neal ranch down the river. Louise Fleming is helping Daisy Simas with the hot lunches at school. Mr. and Mrs. Arlot Fleming are moving back to their ranch down the river. For the past several years they have had their place leased to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gates. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming have spent most of their time in Alaska. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Williams visited at the Mick Cimmiyotti home in Boardman this week. On Saturday they shopped in Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Worth Janney of John Day spent Monday night with Mrs. Janney's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Rho Bleakman and daughter Rhoene drove to John Day for medical checkups on Thursday. Mrs. Mary Lee Lesley and Mrs Botty Joan Simas held open house on December 7th at the home of Betty Jean Simas, honoring their mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cork on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Many friends called during the after noon to congratulate them and gave them many silver pieces in honor of their Silver Anniversary. The benefit dance held in the gymnasium and sponsored by the Grange, was well attended and very successful. The funds from this dance will be used to buy a butane range and hot water tank for the school's Hot Lunch room. Everything was donated. Mr. and Mrs. Farrow of Long Creek fur nished the music. Mr. and Mrs. George Stubble field were business visitors in John Day on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Gilman spent several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Dell Neal last week. The M. M. M. Club held its regu lar meeting at the home of Grace Stirritt last Thursday. Ella Durst was co-hostess but due to illness Mrs. Durst was unable to be there. The club decided to give five dollars to the Christmas seals. After the business meet ing, delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Those pre sent besides the hostess were Martha Mattesson, Lola Shank, Louise Fleming, Millie Wilson, Mary McDaniels, Anna Lesley, Wave Jackson. Delcie Sweek. Dor- is Capon, Iffie McKinney, Jessie HosKii and Eva Moline. The white elephant package was fur nished by Clara Strecker and won by Doris Capon. The next meet ing will be held on Dec. 12 at the home of Millie Wilson with Ida Bleakman as co-hostess. Anne Lesley is helping at the Henry Durst home while Mrs. Durst is not feeling too strong.
