Canasta was enjoyed and re freshments were served. Gift Wrapping Shown At Extension Meeting Mrs. Lloyd Burkenbine was hostess for the Home Extension Unit meeting at her home in S. Heppner Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Robert Evans gave a very inter esting demonstration of gift wrapping and Mrs. Carl Vin cent, assisted by Mrs. Douglas Drake, demonstrated the use of home-made ready mixes. Mem bers present included Mrs. Ralph Caler, Mrs. E. O. Ferguson, Mrs. Willard Warren, Mrs. Lee Scriv ner and Mrs. Pearl Devine. Re freshments were served. The next meeting falls on a holiday, January 1, 1952 and has been postponed according to an an nouncement by Mrs. Scrivner, The meeting date will be decided later. 0. E.S. Social Club Met Saturday Evening Nine tables of cards were in play at the O. E. S. social club party Saturday evening at the Masonic" hall. High score in bridge was received by Mrs. Rich ard Wells; in pinochle by Mrs. C. O. Carmichael of Lexington; and in canasta by W. O. Dix. Mrs W. O. Dix Was awarded the door prize. This is one of the money raising projects sponsored by the Wo men's Auxiliary of All Saints Church. Mrs. R. B. Rice "was the general chairman of the affair assisted by the following commit tees: tea and kitchen, Mrs. Ada Piper, Mrs. Lucy Peterson, Mrs. Ethel Adams, Mrs. Hazel . D. McMurdo, Mrs. Jos. J. Nys and Mrs. F. W. Turner; surprise package -booth, Mrs. Henry Happold and Mrs. C. A. Kane. The money raised from the bazaar is used for various benefits for which the Women's Auxiliary is responsible during the year. . o : Fanchers Entertain With Surprise Party Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Fancher entertained with a surprise party Friday evening at their home on Gilmore street complimenting Mrs. J. C. Sumner, on the occasion of her birthday. Present were Mrs. Charles O'Donnell, Mr. and Mrs. James Lovegren, Miss Rita Cox, J. C. Sumner, Jack, Jimmy, Jay and Wally Sumner. Follow ing the opening of gifts, refresh ments of birthday cake and ice cream were served. This will be the annual Christmas party and gifts for the Oddfellows home are "to be brought at that time. A program has been arranged and refresh ments will be served. Mrs. R. G. McMurtry and Mrs. Pearl Devine are in charge of arrangements. o Soroptimists See Films At Thursday Meeting In order to get a birdseye view of the two cities which will be prominent in Soroptimist affairs this coming year, the Heppner club was shown two films, one of Washington, D. C. and the other of Copenhagen, Denmark, at the Star Theater Thursday noon fol lowing a sack luncheon. The na tional convention will be held in Washington, D. C. in late July and from August 10-16 the interna tional conference will be held in Copenhagen. Several local Sor optimists are making plans to at tend the national convention and on to Europe for the international meeting and the tour of other other countries that has been ar ranged for visiting members. The Club has sent its Christmas package to its sister club at Tam worth, England. The gifts consist of foodstuffs and staples which are in short supply in England. Last year, the gifts were auction ed off to members of the Tam worth Club and the money used for the club project. ., . , o Past Matrons Meet . At Bayless Home Mrs. Frank Wilkinson and Mrs. W. O. Bayless were hostesses last week for the Past Worthy Matrons club of Ruth Chapter 32 OES at the Bayless home on South Court street Election of officers was held with Mrs. Archie Ball elected as president; Mrs. Wilkin son, vice president; and Mrs Har ley Anderson, secretary-treasurer. St. Patrick's Altar Society Plan Dinner Mrs. , William Bucknum enter tained the Altar Society of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church Monday evening at her home on W. Center street. Fourteen were present. Mrs. . Harry O'Donnell, Jr., received the guest prize. The Altar Society is planning a bene fit ham dinner to be given Dec. 29th. They also decided to serve breakfast to the men of the Par ish following their monthly group communion. o r Degree of Honor Plan Christmas Party The annual Christmas party of the Degree of Honor is scheduled for the evening of December 11. A film "Pioneering in Rehabili tation" from the Oregon Society for Crippled Children will be shown'. This is a cojor and sound film. Home movies will be shown Members are urged to attend. There is to be a silver offering which will be used to buy gifts for the old folks at the hospital. Adult Bible Class Entertained Monday Mr. and Mrs. Lester Doolittle entertained the Adult Bible Class of the First Church of Christ Mon day evening at their home on W. Church street. Fourteen members were present. Following the busi ness session, Chinese checkers were played. The class is having their classroom redecorated. Mrs. k D. MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED Of interest to local friends is the announcement of the mar riage of Mrs. Fay Bucknum, for merly of Heppner, to Alvin H. Par rish of Echo. The wedding was an event of November 27 at Walla Walla, Washington. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. H. Burnett of Echo. They plan to reside in' Echo.
