SECTION TWO letter m Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, November 22, 1951 Flood Control Survey Made At Monument By Millie Wilson Victor I. Myers, Soil Conserva tion Service, Flood Control and Albert E. Everts, Flood Control Survey, Soil Conservation Service, of the Pendleton office were in Monument this week looking over the Cottonwood area, and making surveys for possible methods of preventing flood damage to the farm lands. Earl Sweek did some work for the school this week. He was re pairing the porch to the gym nasium. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rickard and children and Bill Bowman were business visitors in Salem last Tuesday and Wednesday. J. B. Wilson of Walla Walla and Bert Stien of LaGrande were in Monument this week buying cattle. While here they pur chased some steers from Carl Cox of Top. Joe Simas drove to Prineville last Sunday and returned Mon day bringing his wife 'and infant son home with him. Dean Enright brought his wife home last Monday from the Hepp ner hospital, where she recently submitted to surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Milder drove to ML.. Vernon 1 Moaday evening. Mr. Miller attended a banquet for Schoolmasters, spon sored by the Mt Vernon P. T. A. and Mrs! Miller was a dinner guest of Mrs. Hicks. Mr. and Mrs. Arlot Fleming of Blair, Washington are spending Elk hunting season here. Beside hunting they are taking some time out to visit relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Boyer were business visitors in Heppner last Tuesday Mr. Robert Croft, principal of the Monument High School drove to Portland last Monday for medi cal aid. While there they visited the Mt. Vernon school. Rhoene Bleakman is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simas. The following 4-H Club mem bers and their parents attended a banquet at Prairie City on No vember 7th, Jim Waldorf, Charles Roach and Rhoene Bleakman. Roy Lynch has moved to Prine ville with his parents. We were all sorry to see him go. The Busy Needles 4-H Sewing Club by Donna Broadfoot. Our second meeting was held at Mrs. Hooker's home. We decided on a name for our Club. It is "The Busy Needles 4-H Sewing Club." Refreshments of cider, candy, apples and sandwiches were served. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. Vandettas. The third meeting at Mrs. Van dettas, we finished our first pro ject. Refreshments of cake and coolade were served. The next meeting will be at Sharon Hin ton's. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cork spent several days in Portland this week. Mrs. Cork's aunt Mrs. Day stayed with their children. .Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cork ship ped their turkeys to Bend last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Stubble field and Joe Elder spent the Armistice holiday in Pendleton. Mrs. Owens health is much improved since she came from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Holmes are the proud parents of a baby boy, born in Pendleton last week. This is the second son for Mr. and Mrs. Holmes. Mrs. Bill Lesley is suffering from an infection under her arm. Mr. Lesley's mother, Anna Les ley has been staying with her for the past week. Mrs. Eleanore Waterhouse has been quite ill for the past week. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mantis took her . to consult a doctor at Prairie City last Thurs day. Georgie Sweek and son, Doug las are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mantis. Last week was the time for birthday parties in the West end of town. Mrs. Joava Enright en tertained for her two small daughters, Pattie, four years old and Beverly two years old. Next on the-same street, Naomi Bow man entertained eight children and their mothers in honor of her daughter Connie. Then on the same street, Clinta Mellor hon ored her two year old "daughter, Carol Lavelle with a party. There will be a Special R. E. A. meeting called for December 8th at Long Creek. Everyone that is interested in getting R. E. A. power should by all means attend this meeting. Mrs. Clyde Jackson and son Hugh drove to Pendleton last Fri day where Hugh enlisted in the Air Corp. On.the following-Wednesday the Recruiting officer frem Pendleton came to Monument for Hugh and Lloyd Grienger. From Pendleton they will go to Spokane for their physicals. Major Victor Du Bosch came home for the weekend November 9th and brought as his guest, Colonel Henry Hoon. While here they visited with the- Ray Davis family and also the Bill Lesley family. On November 13th, Ma jor Du 5 osch and Coloner Hoon reported back to the Fairchild Air Force base, Fajrchild, Wash ington, where they are stationed. Mr. and Mrs. George Capon and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Capon were business visitors In Heppner last Tuesday. Mrs. Henry Cupper and Mrs. Wayne Leathers were hostesses to a pink and blue shower, honor ing Mrs. Bill Gates on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Murd Stubblefield. As it was im possible for Mrs. Gates to be here, the presents were wrapped and sent by mail. There were' eighteen ladies present at the party, Refreshments of Ice cream and cake were served by the hostesses. 5 Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoskins and daughter Lucy were attending to i matters of business in Prineville4-, last Saturday.
