Old AS Business Itself
Advertising is not something merely associated with the
modern version of business. It is as old as business it
self. Advertising was'carved on tablets of stone; it was
give nexpression by the town crier centuries before radio
came upon the air; it was laboriously written on sheets
of parchment before the advent of movable types.
Invention of the printing press and the adoption of mov
able type in printing gave advertising its first real boost.
Since that time many forms of advertising have develop
ed, some of them giving the printed word stiff competi
tion, but today, in spite of inroads made by competitive
forces, newspaper advertising stands out as the most
efficient service in establishing markets, or in putting
your message over to the public.
IF YOU ARE NOT A USER OF NEWSPAPER SPACE, WE
SUGGEST THAT YOU TRY IT.
There are more than 10,000 people in the area
covered by the Gazette Times, an area includ
ing five counties and having substantial
districts tributary to Heppner. Here is an op
portunity to esablish new trade relations.

Morrow county Judge on the re
publican and the democratic
tickets is greatly appreciated. I
trust I will have the privilege of
serving you after January 1, 1919,
with a desire and willingness to
assist in making Morrow county
a united, progressive county.
Sincerely, Garnet Barratt.

In 1936 (Landon), 1940 (Will
kie), and 1944 (Dewey), nomina
tions began on the third day of
the Convention. Landon and Dew
ey were nominated on the first
ballots. In 110, however, with a
field of 13 candidates the nom
inating speeches were not con
cluded until 3 p.m. of the fourth
day. Willkie was nominated on
the 6th ballot that night at 2 a.
m. All three Conventions nomin
ated the Vice-Presidential candi
date on the first ballot: Frank
Knox, Charles L. McNary, and
John W. Bricker. The new time
limitation of 15 minutes (it used
to be 30) for each nominating
speech may give the '48 conven
tion a faster pace. This limit
was set in deference to radio and
television.
