Major Accidents Take Lives of Two Kinzua Employees Two major accidents, one at Kinzua and one at Camp 5, sad- Heppner Gozette Times, Heppner, Oregon, August 23, 1947-5 dened the entire community the patt week. Elgan (Pete) Porter had worked for the Kinzua com pany for 19 years, coming here with his family in 1928. He was a very fine man and father, and a friomis to all who knew him. Funeral services were held at i 2 o'clock p.m. Wednesday in Fos-1 si!, with interment in the Fossil cemetery. The plant of the Kin- i zua Pine Mills company was down on that day. I ! t Bill Shanks, who worked at , Camp 5 as a timber faller, fell dead in the woods early Wed nesday morning, Aug. 20. His body was brought to Kinzua to await arrival of the hearse from John Day, where he was taken. Interment was at Fox Valley; where he was raised and where a large family of brothers sur-: vive him. Mrs. Shanks had been contemplating teaching at Camp 5. It is not known at this time if she will teach now. ! Vernon Perry, also of Camp 5, had the misfortune of fractur ing both arms above the elbow. He worked at the landing. He was taken at once to the hos- i pital at The Dalles. Lee Leathers visited at the Owen Leathers' home Thursday from Camp 5.
