I ONE NEWS NOTES Mrs. Echo Palmateer Billy Morgan of Portland, who has recently received his discharge from the navy is visiting at the home of his brother, Lloyd Morgan, and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks. Ted Palmateer arrived home Dec. 26 from Bremerton were he receiv ed his discharge from the navy Christmas day. Joanne Coleman daughter of Mrs. Ida Coleman received some bad burns about her face from flames caused by starting a fire with kero sene. Mrs. Ada Cannon returned from Portland after spending Christmas there. Charles Austin spent Christmas here with his wife who is the Eng lish teacher in the high school. He Vt Saturday morning for Texas to look after his farm there. Fred Ely of Morgan has rented his farm to John Botts and he and Mrs. Ely left for Enumclaw, Wash, to visit their son-in-law and dau ghter,, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hoak. Tom Huston, son of Mr. and 'Mrs. Clyde Huston, received his dis charge' from the navy and is home with his parents. Ted Peterson, of the U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peter son expects his discharge soon after the first of the year. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ely spent the holidays in Salem visiting rela tives. Robert Hoskins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoskins Sr. spent Christ mas at home. He is stationed in Illinois. Richard WaddelL Bible student at San Jose, Calif, spent Christmas with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. H. N. Waddell. The Waddells drove to Nyssa Sunday afternoon to visit friends. Richard went on to Cali fornia from there There are still several cases of the flu in this vicinity. John Troedson and W. G. Pal mateer left Monday morning for Hot Lake to spend a few weeks. Misses Alice Nichoson, Eunice Peterson and Melba Crawford re turned to Oregon State college New Year's day. June Griffith was ill with flu and could not go until la ter. Alton Yarnell returned to the University of Washington. lone schools opened Jan. 2 VALBY LUTHERAN CHURCH HOLDS ANNUAL ELECTION Election of officers for the ensu ing year was held Sunday, Dec. 30 at Valby Lutheran church in Goose berry. A business meeting was held following church services conduct ed by Reverend Hakeson. Carl Bergstrom was elected trus tee; Oscar Peterson, delegate to the conference; Henry Peterson, delegate to the district; Oscar Pet erson, Sunday school superinten dent; Henry Baker, assistant sup erintendent; Mrs. Henry Peterson, organist; Mildred Carlson, assistant organist, and Herbert Ekstrom, secretary. The congregation voted to have church services the last Sunday of each month. Rev. Hakeson promised to send a minister once a month, weather permitting.
