Lexington News Heppner Gazette Times, February 24, 1944 3 Worker Suffers Leg ln;ury When Sack Pile Falls By Mrs. Ruth McMillan Ralph Ledbettetr received a lac erated leg Monday while working for Morrow County Grain Growers. Some sacks fell from the piler and knocked him into the machinery. He was taken to Heppner to a phy sician. Ed Grant, Elmer Peterson and Clifford Yarnell left for Portland the middle of the week to undergo their-final examinations preparatory to entering the armed services. Announcement of the arrival of a six pound 12 ounce son, Willis Rocklin, on Feb. 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Patterson at Salem was re ceived this week. Mrs. Patterson is the - daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan. Mrs. R. B. Rice of Heppner is filling Mrs. Don Romine's place in school. Mrs. Romine is on a two weeks trip with her husband, Pfc. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Barlow are moving to Heppner this week. Mrs. Lou Broadley and Mrs. Elsie Beach left by stage for Portland Tuesday to be gone about a week. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Henderson and sons spent Sunday in La Grande; Mrs. Everett Crump visited in Ordnance Sunday with Mrs. Delia Crump. Mr. and Mrs. Verne Wilcox of Portland are moving into the Chris tian church parsonage. Wilcox is the new mechanic at Jackson Im plement company. Mrs. Elmer Hunt returned Satur day from- a two weeks visit in Port land at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Moffatt Dennis. She was met at The Dalles by her husband. Sandra daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whillock was quite ill at her home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Scott and sons of Portland are visiting rela tives and friends. They recently sold their house here to Mr. and Mrs. George Bye. Bob and Roger Campbell and Gene Majeske drove to Portland on business over the weekend, then continued on to Tongue Point for a short visit with Don Campbell, H. A. ljc. Mrs. Edward Rice left Tuesday for Portland where she will visit relatives. Lexington community was shock ed to hear of the sudden death of La Verne "Jump" Wright, former Lexington boy, in The Dalles Mon day night. La Verne was a grad ate of this high school. Ralph Jackson and daughter Marcella, accompanied by David Jackson of Pendleton left for San Francisco this week called by the sudden death of their brother-in-law, Fred Supple.
