RETURNS TO SOUTH Pfo Raymond Kay Ferguson de parted Wednesday night to return to Camp Wolters Texas after en joying the past week with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Ferguson and other relatives. His furlough was quite unexpected and the lad lad thoroughly enjoyed just being at home with his family. GO TO CALIFORNIA Mr. and Mrs. Harry O'Donnell left Friday for San Francisco where they were called by the serious illness of Mrs. O'DonnelTs mother. They accompanied Mrs. Edward and in Portland picked up Mr. Rice Mr. O'Donnell had not planned to make the trip until it was learned that both their sons would be in San Francisco on a week's leave. RETURNS TO HEPFNER Mrs. Neva LeTrace came from Stanfield Sunday night to take care of Mrs W. E. Pruyn who is ill. Mrs. LeTrace was visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Lowe, who brought her home. RETURN TO NEW MEXICO V. P. Huff was granted gasoline by the rationing board to take his fam ily to their home in Albuquerque, N. M. They left Saturday for that point Huff was employed on the Kinzua logging road project, work ing for Leonard & Slate contractors. IN PORTLAND Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilkinson drove to Portland Tuesday to spend a few days on business. They expect to return home the last of the week. INJURED IN ACTION Mrs. Catherine Doherty and oth er members of her family have re ceived word that Paul Doherty, a member of the marines, was in jured in action in the South Pacific. No particulars were received with the message. TAKES SON TO PORTLAND Mrs. Marvin "Wightman left for Portland Sunday, taking her son, Marvin Jr., to the Doernbecker hospital for treatment. She expects to be away about a month. COMES FOR CAR Mrs. Viola Gray arrived in Hep pner Tuesday from her home "at Dorria, Calif., and left Thursday morning driving a car she bought from Mrs. A. E. Burkenbine. Mrs. Gray is a former resident of Hepp ner, living here several years when her husband, the late Dr. Gray, practiced here. JOINT INSTALLATION Friday evening, Jan. 21, is the date K p C D fj M sei Dy uie (juaieiows ana neoen ahs for their annual installation of officers. The affair will open with a dinner at 6:30 o'clock followed by the business of the evening. WITH WAR BONDS VISITING HERE Mrs. T. W. Rippee of Boardman is visiting in Heppner this week at the homes of Frank Conner and Oscar Rippee. WORD OF APPRECIATION We do not know the names of all of the people who so kindly and generously assisted us after the fire which destroyed our home and be longings and are taking this means to say "thank you from the bottoms of our hearts." Mr. and Mrs. Eslie M. Walker and family. RETURNS TO CAMP S 2jc Hubert Wilson left the last of the week for Gulfport Miss, to re sume training after visiting his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Wilson. ACCEPTS PENDLETON JOB Miss Jeannette Sims' has accepted the position of secretary to the city superintendent of schools in Pendle ton. Miss Sims was a winter term graduate from Oregon State college and visited at the home of Dr. and graduation. Mrs. A. D. McMurdo following her HERE FROM KAMELA Mr. and Mirs. J. K. Charlton of Kamela were visitors in the coun ty last week, spending some time with friends in the Eight Mile sec tion and attending to business mat ters in Heppner. Mrs. Charlton, the former Daisy Shively, was busy greeting friends while in town. Her husband is a railroad man. VISITING FAMILY Pfc Simpson Holley is visiting his wife and son at the Morris Nash home, coming from New Orleans where he has been cooking in the general hospital. He expects to go on to a hospital ship as cook when he returns to duty. ON FURLOUGH Pfo Albert Winkleman, in train ing at Fort Ranier, Wash., is visit ing in the county this week. He is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Alen at Lexington. RETURN TO PORTLAND Mr. and Mrs. Everett Harshman left for Portland Tuesday where Mrs. Harshman will receive further treatment for a leg injury sustain ed in Klamath Falls last falL They spent some time in Portland earlier in the winter and returned here a short time ago but it soon develop ed that the limb was not healing properly. VISITING MOTHER Pvt Francis Doherty is visiting his mother, Mrs. Catherine Doher ty and other relatives, coming from Shreveport, La., where he is in training. NOW AT FARRAGUT Roger Conner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Connor, enlisted in the navy last week and is stationed at Farragut. He had been "chaffing at the bitt" until he was 17 and lost little time in joining up.
