t Irrigon News Notes By MRS. J. A. SHOTTN The Roy Bedi wells of Sunny -side and the Ernest Bediwelils o Pendleton spent Christmas with the men's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Bediwell. They left for their home Sunday evening. - T. H Haddock of Everson, Wash., is visiting his sons Carl and Leo. The Leo Haddocks of Hermiston pent Christmas with Carl Haddack and family. Calvin Allen and wife and son of Arlington and Billy Allen of lone spent Christmos with the H. W. Grim family. Arden' Allen and fam ily, Mrs. Mildlned Haney and son Wesley were also guests on Christ mas day. Mr. and Mrs. John Voile and Juanita and nephew George Voile spent Christmas day with George's mother, Mrs Elsie Voile and his sisters, Kathleen and Barbara. Paul Haberlein went to Marsh field to spend the holidays with his sister, Mrs. William Whitman and his daughter Paula. Mrs. Lillie Dosch of Pendleton came Thursday to spend the holi days with her daughter, Mrs. Roy Minnich and family. Bert Benefiel went to Portland to enjoy Christmas with relatives. Robert Waters was taken to the Pendleton hospital Monday eve ning where he was immediately operated on. Mrs. Jack Browning went up Tuesday and Mr. Brown ing went in the afternoon Miss La Vern Duus, student nurse arrived Monday from the Doernbecker hospital. She is visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Duus. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caldwell en tertained their son Clair and fam ily of Lebanon and Mr. and Mrs. Vdrnon Caldwell of Portland! and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith of Ir rigon over the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cooper of Troutdale arrived Friday evening to enjoy the holidays with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Steph ens and family. Mrs Melton Amos and children of Kellogg, Ida., came Thursday to visit the Elmer Ruckers. They all spent Christmas day with Les lie Rucker at Pullman, Wash. Mrs. Jay Berry and daughter Barbara Fredrickson - pre visiting relatives here Mrs. Fredrickson's husband, Clarence Fredrickson, is, in the navy. Mr. and Mrjs.1 A. R. June Lofton of Condon came home Saturday with the Sinice Moore family to spend the holidays Miss Ellen Miller, student nurse of Pasco, came home for Christ mas going back Monday by bus. Mrs. Dan Hill and little daughter Theresa Wyoma arrived home from the Pendleton hospital Friday. The William Wilsons went to Pendleton Friday going from there to La Grande with , friends. They returned home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grider and Mr. and Mrs. George Brown spent Christmas with the S. C. Brannons of Boardman. The wom en are all sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Don Isom of Bates spent Christmas vacation with his parents the W. C. Isoms. They re turned to Bates Monday. CHILDREN HERE CHRISTMAS Mr. and Mrs. Vernon J.' Scott and children Jerry and Tim, of Port land and Dean R Sprinkel of Se attle arrived unexpectedly at the Lee A. Sprinkel home early Christ mas morning for a short holiday visit with the home folks. They re tuned to their respective homes Sunday. Mrs. Scott and Dean are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Sprin kel The Scotts also paid a , short visit to his mother. Mrs. Laura Scott, and other relatives in Lex ington. ROAD CREW POSTPONES WORK UNTIL SPRING Leonard & Slate, contractors on the road building work being done by the Kinzua Pine Mills company on the new logging highway in southern Morrow county, have dis continued work until spring. It is understood that the 10 or more families living in Heppner since the work started will return to their homes for the winter. Another crew will remain on the job getting out gravel to be laid when construction work resumes on the road in the spring. VISITED IN HOOD RIVER Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash and family spent Christmas with rela tives in Hood River, returning to Heppner Monday night. Nash is an employe of the Braden-Bell store here. GUEST OF ORWICKS Mr. and Mrs. Guy Huddleston of Lone Rock spent Christmas with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Orwick and family. Mr. Huddleston went on to Port land Sunday where he is employed in a shipyard, while the Orwicks took Mrs. Huddleston back to her home. We've got Axis to grind. Buy Defense Bonds and Stamps. mm BOARDMAN NEWS Yellowjackets of BszrdtTzn Sting Barnstormers By MABGASET THOBPE Boardman Yellowjackets played a basketball game with North Pow der on the home floor Monday night. This was a very interesting gamp due to the fadt that) North Powder was so far ahead at the half that they felt the game was "cinch ed". They took out the first team and sent them on to Heppner, where they played the next night, and put in the second team. The Boardman boys made up all the points in the second half and defeated Norh Pow der by a score of 47 to 38. The annual Christmas program was held Tuesday night at the church. It consisted of Christmas dramatizations with singing accom paniment by the choir. Several reci tations and musical numbers were presented. Treats were given to the children. Thursday evening the community Christmas program was presented by the students at the school house conducted by La Verne Partlow. The. program consisted of an operetta called "Christmas with the old Wo man Who Lived in a Shoe." Also several numbers were given by the high school glee club. Santa Claus put in his appearance before the evening was over and treats were passed out to everyone. A very large crowd attended the program, the auditorium being filled to capacity. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root and son spent Christmas at the Leo Root home. Mr. Root . returned to his work Sunday night but Mrs Root is here due to Curtis having the flu. Mr.- and Mrs. B. K. Miller and family went to Portland to spend the holidays with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gorham went to Arlington and spent Christmas with Mr and Mrs. Delbert Weath erell and family. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely and fam ily went . to Morgan to spend Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Both canvas and leather have been limit ed very closely for civilian consumption . . . . labor is hard to get. To be assured of completion on repairs of drapers and grain aprons for this coming harvest we have been informed this work must be done very soon A center strap in your draper will increase the life of the draper several years, or small repairs now could avoid a delay. Saturday night the show was fol lowed by. games and dancing with refreshments being served. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black went to Wallowa to have Christmas with her brother. Henry Phelps was called east due to the serious illness of his mother. Thelma Cutler is in the hospital very ill following a mastoid opera tion. Guests at the Anderegg home for Christmas were Mr. and Mrs Tom Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. I. Skoubo and Francis, Bill Harrington, Ralph Wasmer. Mr. and Mrs. Brown and Katherine and Reo Rake. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mallory spent Christmas at the Claude Coates home Guests at the Fisher home Christ mas were Mr. and Mrs. Nels Kris tensen and Elaine Fisher who was home for the day. ' Eleanor, Asta and Dagmar Skou bo were home for the holidays. Andy Anderegg was injured last Saturday when some boards fell from the barn that is being built on the Chas. Anderegg farm, strik ing him on the head.. Bob Smith slipped Thursday night on a board and cut his chin. Three stitches were taken in it. "Among those ill with the flu this week are Cecil Hamilton. Allan and Maxine Ely, Mrs. Hug and Curtis Root. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Nolt and fam ily stopped Sunday at the home of his sister and family, Mrs. Francis Harter on their way to South Da kota. Another sister, Mrs. Esther Jacobson of Beaverton also came this far for a few days visit return ing to her home on the bus. Guests at the Nathan Thorpe home for Christmas were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith and family and Mr. and Mrs. George Daniel. Miss Ellen Etbauer and Mrs Floy Washburn went to Portland Mon day to spend a few days. They had Christmas dinner at the Harter home. IN PORTLAND Homer Tucker went to Portland Tuesday to spend some time receiv ing medical treatment. December 30, 19433 PLANS RECREATION ROOM Plans are under consideration by the Christian Endeavor society of the Church of Christ for establish ment of a recreation room to be open one night each week. The pro gram will include two parties each month for all members and their friends. The society meets at 6:30 p. m. each Sunday. Happy New Year! And thanks a million!
