6 Heppner Gazette Times, December 23, 1943 Lexington News By Mrs. Kuth McMillan Out-of-town relatives who were here for the Sarah White funeral were Mrs. Gerald White of Hermis ton. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Grogan; Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Leach with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Dopple meier of Portland; Miss Lenna Waid and her brothers, Claud and Vernon of Stanfield, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert H. Gilbreath of Dayton. Wash,, and Mrs. Keith Gentry of Pendleton. Unable to attend because df war service were Lt. Gerald White, sta tioned in Charleston, S. ( Capt. Eugene Gentry, overseas, S. Sgt. Vivian White, Fort Ord, Calif., and J. Keith Gentry, S. T 2-c. overseas. The Oddfellows and Rebekahs held a pre-Christmas party Thurs day night in the I. O. O. F. hall af ter their regular lodge session. The main feature was an exchange of gifts around the Christmas tree, fol lowed by supper served by the Rebekahs. Patty O'Harra arrived Friday morning Ifrpm Eugene, wthstre she attends the University of Oregon, to spend the holidays with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra. Mrs. Ralph Ledbetter has return ed to her home after being a patient in a hospital in The Dalles for quite some time. Mrs. Everett Crump arrived Thursday from Seattle where she has been employed, for a visit dur ing the holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Breshears, Mrs. Belle Leathers left Sunday with her daughter, Mrs. C. C. Car michael, for Portland, having been called by the serious illness of a brother. Mrs. Clifford Yarnell and daugh ters, Kay and Robin, returned from Newberg Sunday. . after spending the past two weeks there. Robert Duncan and 'Mr. and Mrs. Dan Casey of EUensburg, Wash., are guests at the Kenneth Marshall home this week. Cpl. Henry Raueh. after seeing service for several months overseas, returned Monday with a medical discharge. Cpl. Raueh is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raueh. Lon Edwards and son Clyde left for Portland Monday where Clyde contemplates joining the Marines instead of the navy as he formerly sandwiches. planned Bill Rosa is ill at his home with the flu. BOARDMAN NEWS By MABGABET THORPE Morrow County Pomona and county wide installation of new of ficers by state grange officers was held Wednesday, Dec, 15. The fore noon was spent with a business meeting conducted by Pomona mas ter Minnie McFarland. After a lovely dinner our worthy state mas ter Morton Tompkins gave a very interesting talk on his recent trip to England. The officers were then in stalled. A recreation period was conducted by Edith Bohnert and everyone participated. In the eve ning the 5th degree was put on by Greenfield grange initiating a large class of Greenfield members. The Greenfield grangers greatly appre ciated the many compliments given by visitors on the improvements made on our hall. Through the faithful work by a number of mem bers the new ceiling was finished in time for the meeting. Dressing rooms on each side of the stage will ' also be added in the near future.. Mra. Gladys Ford of Waitsburg .Erent Wednesdiw in Bonrdman where she attended grange and vis ited many old friends. The thiow was held Thursday night in the Grange hall. The next one will be Brb Bums in "I am from Minrouri" Saturday Dec. 25. It will be followed by a social to which everyone is to bring either cake or May the joys of this holiday season remain with you, not only at Christmas but . throughout the year! Gordon's Drug Store Rhrmners in Pendleton' Thursday were L Skoubo, Effie Bullack. Mar garet Thorpe and. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Brandon. Friday night was a basketball game on the local floor against Echo. The Boardmani Yellowjackets were defeated by one point after a very hard fight Mr. and Mrs. Francis Harter and family spent Saturday in Pendleton shopping. Mrs. La Verne Partlow entertain ed the faculty at her home Sunday night with a waffle dinner. Games were played and gifts were ex changed. Friday afternoon the Ladies Aid finance committtee entertained the other members of the Aid with a Christmas party. Gifts were ex changed and lunch served by the committee. Nick Faler spent a few days in Boardrman on business this week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thorpe left for Portland on a business trip last Monday. Gianpe met last Saturday night in regular business meeting. A pot luck dinner was held before .the meeting. Mr. pnd Mrs. J. P. Brooks of Her mislon spent the week-end at the Ear Brigs home. Mrs. Ed Barlow and children are spending a few days at home. GOING VISITING Mr. and Mra. Clarence Rosewall will spend the week-end at Athena and Walla WaIa visiting their mothers. EXAMINER COMING A traveling examiner of operators and chauffeurs is scheduled to ar rive in Heppner, Tuesday, Dec. 28, and will be on duty at the court house between the hours of 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. All those wishing permits or licenses to drive cars are asked to get in touch with the examiner during these hours.
