Heppner Gazette Times, October 28, 1943 3 BOAR DM AN MEWS By MABGABET THORPE Mrs. Nels Kristensen and Eliza beth took Buddy to Portland Tues day for a medical checkup. They returned Thursday. Harry Thorpe injured his leg Monday while endeavoring, to load a cook stove on a trailer alone- Al though it is nothing serious he has a badly bruised leg and one cut which went to the bone. ' Mrs- Margaret Klitz Severely in jured her foot at the UOD Monday while working. It was necessary to take five stitches next to the bone and 17 on the outffde. She was ta ken to the Pendleton hospital Sat urday as it wasn't healing as it should. Initiation was held at the grange hall Thursday night with a good cla of new members going into the grange. Those taking the degree work were Mr- and Mrs. R. Black, Mir. and Mrs. Fussle, Mr. and Mrs. Faulkner. Mis Ellen Etbauer, Miss Helen Brown, Mrs. Floy Washburn, Mrs. Zoe Billings, Mrs. Floyd Bou ey. and Mrs. Kenneth Nolt. Lunch wal1 served after which dancing was enjoyed before going home. Mr. and Mrs. Buster Rands. Bob Harwood and Sgt. Chas. Smith went into the mountains Thursday night hunting. They returned Sunday night with one deer. Mrs. Sam Boardman returned to her home in Salem Thursday after visiting friends in Boardman for a week. ' Mrs. Kenneth Nolt left Friday night for Bremerton. Wash, to be with her husband who is to under go an operation. A Sadie Hawkins party was held Friday night at the school house. Although considerable grief was had when the girls were trying to find eligible young men to escort to the party a good time was en joyed by all. (There seems to be a man shortage in certain sections of the country at this time.) Mrs- W. A. Baker, Mrs. La Verne Partlow, Mrs. Floy Washburn, Miss Ellen Etbauer, and Miss Helen Brown were shopping in Walla Walla Saturday. Mrs. Nate Macomber and Mrs. I. Skoubo both spent the week-end in Pendleton visiting their daughters- Dale Ford who spent the week end here visiting friends states that his brother Don is in the navy statioined at Farragut, Ida. Mr. and Mrs- Ivan Brandon are the parents of a baby girl born the latter part of the week at Pen dleton. She has been named Joy Arlene. Mr. and Mrs. Rordell arrived Sat urday morning from Los Angeles to visit their daughter Mrs. Art Al len. They will all go to Tacoma -soon. A meeting of those interested in old storage lockers was held Mon day night in the grange hall. Most of the details have been planned and a representative of the Sunset Electric company was present to give estimates on the cost and ma terials needed. Sgt. Chas. Smith left Monday night for his camp at Boca Raton field, Fla.. after spending a 15-day furlough at home. Mrs. Glen Mallory and son ar rived Monday night from Eugene for an indefinite stay with her pa rents, Mr- and Mrs. Claude Coates. Mrs. Russell Miller and infant son have returned home from the Her miston hospital. A 'hunting party left Monday to take in the last of deer season and the first of elk season. Among those going were Paul Smith, Chas. Dil lon, Mr. Reese, Mr. Conners, Nels Kristensen, A. Hugg. Lou and George Bush. Mrs. Weigand left for Ken newick after a short visit with the Harry Smith family. She took her small daughter who has been living with her grandparents, home with her. E- R. Schneider arrived home from Kennewick Thursday. Freda Mae Shown spent the week-end in Walla Walla returning Monday. Mrs. Elmer Rucker and Jo Ann left for Kellogg. Ida.. Wednesday to visit her daughter Mrs? Melton Amon and family. They returned home Sunday. Charles Welles Acock, Jr., is to report in Heppner the 28th to join the armed forces. Oto Myers left Sunday to hunt. Mifjs Heibert and Miss Stubben dich who have been holding revival meetings in the Presbyterian church have Bible classes at the church during the school week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Aldrich of Sunnyside came to Irrigon Sunday and they and Mr?i. Glen Aldrich left Monday for the mountains to hunt.
