OHAB EIETMANN Rural Life Sunday will be ob served at the Co-operative Church of lone Sunday. May 30. At the 11 o'clock service. Dr. Perry F. Schrock of Portland will be guest speaker, using as his subject. "Wheat and Religion." Special music is be ing arranged. Willows grange will attend n a body and there will be a potluck dinner at the grange hall follownig the morning service. Rev. J. Fred Stilwell, pastor, has ex tended an invitation to the public to attend the worship service and the dinner. Rev. W. W. Head of Cathlamet. Wash., assisted by Rev. Joseph Ste vens of the Baptist church of Jone, conducted the baccalaureate serv ices for the graduating class Sun day, May 23. The church was filled to capacity with relatives and friends of the graduates who heard an insiring sermon. While here Rev. Head was the guest of Mr. and Mrs, Laxton McMur'ray. He was the dinner guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Troedson. Sunday eve ning he was guest speaker in the Baptist church. Mrs. Howard Eubanks left Wed nesday May 19 for Everett, Wash., to spend a few days visiting How ard who is stationed there with the Merchant Marine. Little Betty Gorger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gorger, us derwent a tonsillectomy last Wed nesday at Pendleton. She is now completely recovered. Mrs. Charles Nord of Portland, formerly of lone, arrived Thursday to visit her son Ray Barnett and family and other friends in lone. Saturday she was a guest at the George Allyn home in Lexington. Mrs. P. C. Peterson, and Mrs. Louis Ball retured Saturday from Portland where they visited Mrs. Ralph Leadbetter who is receiving medical treatments there. The graduating class was enter tained at dinner at the home of Mr. tmd Mrs. Henry Peterson Sunday evening. Mrs. Robert Buchanan received a painful injury last week when a Etick she stepped on flew up and struck her above the knee. It was necessary to get medical attention to care for the wound. Mrs. Harriet Brown was honored at the Rebekah meeting last Thurs day evening when she was given a farewell party in the form of a handkerchief .shower. Twenty-two members were present. Grant Buchanan, who has been a patient at the Ritter Hot Springs for several weeks is reported slight ly improved. He is the father of Fred Buchanan. Mrs. Henry Clark received word that Mrs. Anne Leasure and Cpl. Irving Ritchie were married at Ogden, Utah, April 10. Capt. Ritchie is now stationed at Hendricks Field at Sibring, Fla. Mrs. Ritchie plans to move to Sibring in three or four weeks. Lowell Clark who has been visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clark the last week, left 'Tuesday to return to Aberdeen, Md., where he is stationed. Mesdames Franklin Lindstrom and Clarence Harris and Miss Eva Swanson were hostesses for a birth day party honoring Mrs. Garland Swanson at the home of Miss Swanson Monday afternoon. About 20 young women attended and the guest of honor received many love ly gifts. Henry Buschke who is stationed at San Francisco spent last week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Buschke of Morgan. Also visiting at the Buschke home were Mr. and Mrs. Aley Peck and three children of Eugene. Mrs. Peck was formerly Josephine Buschke. Mary Jean, Tom and Donald Bristow, children of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Bristow of Nampa, Ida., arrived Sunday to visit their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bris tow. Mrs. Elisha Sperry and daughters Charlotte and Mrs. Eldon Padberg Permission Required For Public Gatherings Groups of individuals sponsoring public events in Oregon must fol low the same procedure as last year in getting permission to hold the attraction, regardless of whether the site is in the dimout zone, if it will attract 500 or more persons. Pecks Surprised by Neighbors, Friends On 25" Anniversary By MBS. MAXITTE QUAY A group of neighbors and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. George Peck on their 25th wedding anni versary, Sunday, May 23. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all. Those present were:- Mr. and Mrs. Scott, Brown of - Condon; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Campbell of Heppner; Miss Etta Millit, Mrs. Lota Callo way, D. W. Glasgow. Mrs. Arthur Keene, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green and son Clifford, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Winkle. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Campbell, Bob nad Roger, Mr, and Frank Munkers and Leonard, Mr. Mrs. Burton Peck, Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. W. C. Van Winkle, June and Lorine, Miss Frieda Breeding, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruhl, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray and Michael, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller and family, Jack, Roberta, Margie, Bill and Harry. Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Breeding had the misfortune to have their house catch fire late Friday evening. Con siderable damage was done, how ever most everything was saved. Irvin Rauch is visting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Rauch while on furlough. The Degree of Honor lodge' held a picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Munkers. The high school gave a dance Friday evening for the eighth grade students. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burnside and family have, moved back to Lexington from the valley where Mr. Burnside has been employed for the past several months. John Miller spent the week-end with his family, returning to Port land the first of the week. There are several new cases of the mumps in town. This time the victims are Joan Breeding, Dale Papineau and the Burton boys. were Sunday visitors in lone on their way to Portland where they plan to spend the summer. Ralph Akers who is staying with his daughter, Mrs. Russell Miller of Boardman, spent a few days visit ing in lone. He has recovered suf ficiently from a stroke to be able to get around with the use of a cane. John Nolan has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Bessie Everson, who ac companied him to Pendleton to visit relatives there. Mr. Nolan is em ployed in the shipyards in Port land. Mrs. Norman Swanson and small son of Portland are guests at the home of MIrs. Mary Swanson. Locust hcapter of the OES will meet in regular session on Wednes day, June 2 at 8:30 p. m. in the Masonic hall. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Eubanks received word that Billy Eubanks had been discharged after several weeks illness from the naval hos pital at Charlestown. S. C. and is again on active duty. IRRIGON NEWS School Ends Work; Principal Leaving For USO Position By MRS. J. A. SHOT7N Ladd Sherman has resigned as school superintendent to take a po sition with the USO. He has to be in Los Angeles by the 31st and will go from there to New York. Mrs. Sherman will spend six weeks in Lexington with her aunt, Mrs. C. C. Carmichael. The seniors and juniors had their annual banquet in Pendleton Ved esday evening. Commecement exercises wiere heldFriday evening with Alvin R. Kaiser of the Eastern Oregon Nor mal delivering the address. There were nine high school graduates and 11 from the 8th grade. Miss Virginia left for her home at Lewiston Ida.. Saturday. Mrs. R. Rada left for Monroe Sunday and Miss Dorothy Larkin went to her home in Portland. Raymond Coulter has been given the job of janitor another year. He is to build a primary room during vacation. Avery Shoun is spending ,a few days at the Heppner ranch. He left Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson and three children of New Meadows are spending two weeks with Mr. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Nora Wil son. He is repainting her house and plant to return to New Meadows Friday. Central Market Mr. and Mrs. jMoses McGrew visited the' J. A. Shouns from Fri day until Sunday. They took Mrs. Ann Keith back to Touchet. She spent several days here. Mrs. Henry Belle and daughter Bonnie are moving to Pendleton to live. y The two Newbill children went to Nyssa to visit their grandmother. Mrs. Joy Weigand of Kennewick. came Sunday to visit her mother Mrs. Harry Smith, and family ad to take her baby home. 'Mrs. Smith has been keeping the baby. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Bediwell were in Pendleton Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Long moved from the Frank Brace place this, week. Mrs. Walter Johnson and small son are visiting Mr. Johnson who is: the section foreman. Roy Stamp visited at the Shoun and Acock homes until Sunday when he went back to work. Mrs. Lily Acock and son Marvin visited the C. W Acocks from Fri day until Sunday. ARTHUR STEFANI HONORED WITH BIRTHDAY PARTY Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stefani en tertained with a birthday dinner at their home Sunday afternoon in honor of their son Arthur'a birthday. Guests were Marylou and Ted Ferguson, Bobby Dean Runnion, Jean Turner, Joe McLaughlin,. Midge Provo, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grabill and Bobby Lee.
