Grange met Saturday night with the evening spent initiating the fol lowing candidates: Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. George Daniels, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Crowder, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Van Metre, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Conyers, Mr. and Mrs. Webster Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Burl. Maynard. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Harter and children spent Saturday in Hepp ner attending a board meeting and shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller and fam ily of Gresham moved Monday on to the George McCutcheon place. Mr. and Mrs. Burl Akers and children of lone spent Sunday at the Russell Miller home. Ralph Akers who has been at the Miller home for several weeks returned home with them. Mrs. Blanche Shannon and Flor ence Skoubo are staying at the Bill Lilly home while Mr. and Mrs. Lilly are in Portland. Eldon Shannon who is working on the coast spent t he week-end with his family. A farefell party was held Mon day night at the Messenger home for Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Brown who will be leaving soon for a new job. Dale Ford is confined to his home with measles. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lay left Monday for the valley to look for a place to move to. Don Ford has gone to Walla Wal la to work until his induction into the army. Mr. and Mrs. Bob McLouth and family have moved to Athena where he will be employed on a wheat farm. Raymon John Gronquist and Frances Geraldine Healy were united in marriage at Hermiston Thursday with Rev. Cullen officiat ing. Mr. Gronquit is a soldier at the local field and has been here for about a year. The young couple will live in one of the Berger apartments. Mrs. Mary Martin, 72, died at the Hermiston hospital. She had been living with her daughter Mrs. Clarence Nelson at Messner. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Gladys Martin of The Dalles and Mrs. Nelson and one grandchild. Burial will be at Maupin Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones and Elvin will leave right away for Eugene to work in defense work. IX.
