8 Heppner Gazette Times, October 1, 1942 SOCIETY CHIT-CHAT By JUNE SMITH SUNDAY WEDDING AT ALL SAINTS CHURCH A lovely wedding was held here Sunday morning, when Miss Con stance Instone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Instone became the bride of Virgil Hatfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hatfield of Hills boro. The ceremony was at high noon in All Saints' Episcopal church with the Ven. Eric 0. Robathan was given in marriage by her fa reading the service Th-3 bride, who ther, was dressed in a rose beige frock, trimmed with lace, and wore dark green accessories with a cor sage of orchids. She was attended by her cousin, Miss Virginia Wells of Hermiston, as maid of honor and Miss June Hatfield, sister of the groom as bridesmaid. Everett Hat field acted as best man for his brother. Norbert Peavy presided at the organ and Lucille Barlow sang "I Love You Truly," Dahlias, zinnias and fems made an attractive back ground for the ceremony. A wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, fol lowing the ceremony, sarved by Mrs. Efie Morgan, Mrs. Annie Schafier and Mrs. Mabel Hughes. Following a wedding trip to southern Oregon the young couple will live in Hillsboro. In honor of her son Lance's fourth birthday, Mrs. L. D. Tibbies had a group of ten of his playmates for a birthday party Tuesday after noon. Games were played, and birthday cake and ice cream served. Mrs. Tibbies was assisted by Mrs. Stephen Thompson, Mrs. J. G. Thomson, Jr., and Mrs. Vawter Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ferguson and Mr. and Mrs. James Valentine will drive to Pullman Saturday to attend the Oregon - Washington State football game. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Smith of Portland are visiting with Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Miller this week. Mr. Smith and Mrs. Miller are brother and sister. ' Anyone interested in making res ervations for the benefit card party to be held tomorrow- afternoon at the Orville Smith home, may do so by phoning Mrs. B. C. Pinckney. This of course applies only to those who have not been 'sold a ticket, as it has not been possible to contact everyone wishing to attend. Both bridge and pinochle will be played, with attractive prizes to be given. It is hoped a large attendance will be had, as the cause is a worthy one, the proceeds to go to the fur nishing of recreation rooms for our service men in hospitals in this area. The affair will be a dessert bridge, beginning at 1:30 p. m. The engagement of Miss Florence Hindley, of Spokane, to Jackson Gilliam, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Gilliam, of Heppner, was announced last week at a supper party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hindley in Spokane. Tiny scrolls presented to each guest bore the news. Friends returning to- col lege were the guests. Miss Hindley graduatedin June from Whitman college where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Gil liam also graduated from Whitman last June and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He is stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. with the Army Air corps. No date has been set for the wedding. Mrs. Otto Eggers and Mrs. Henry Blahm, of Walla Walla, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Wightman last week end. Mrs. W. P. Remington of Pendle ton addressed members of the Epis copal guild when it met last Thurs-Twenty-nine members were pres day afternoon at the parish house, cnt. Mrs. R. M. Rice of Victoria, B. C, is with her mother, Mrs. W. G. McCarty here. Everyone is invited to attend the reception for the teachers to be held this Friday evening at the Christian church at 8 p. m. A good program has been arranged for the evening, according to members of the com mittee. It will show a friendly com munity spirit if a large number of townspeople turn out to meet the new teachers. Refreshments will be served. The American Legion auxiliary met Tuesday at the Red Cross rooms for sewing. A good many more women could be' put to work at the sewing for the Red Cross which is on hand at the Masonic Temple, according to those in atten dance. It has been announced that Miss Jean Hayes has been pledged: to Delta Delta Delta sorority. John Lane has pledged Sigma Pi, Henry Aiken, Phi Gamma Delta and George Davidson, Kappa Delta Rho at O. S. C. The Eastern Star Social club will meet for dessert bridge Saturday afternoon at the Masonic hall. Hos tesses will be Flora Nys and Emma E"ans. , Mrs. Leonard Schwarz entertain ed members of the Wednesday club at dessert bridge Wednesday after noon. High score was won by Mrs. B. C. Pinckney and second by Mrs. Stephen Thompson. Announcement of the birth of twin daughters to Mrs. Llqyd Gil kerson of Odell, has been received here. The babies were born Sept. 28, and have been named Sharon and Sandra. Mrs. Gilkerson will be re membered as Miss Isabel Deos who lived in Cecil prior to her marriage. A request to Heppner magazine readers for copies of Life, Look, Readers Digest and Time has been made by Mrs. Walter Mbore of Pendleton. These magazines are in demand at the USO rooms in Pen dleton. Anyone having copies may leave them at Myrtle's Beauty shop and anyone driving to Pendleton who will take them to the USO center will confer a favor. In honor of her house guest. Mrs. Forrest Cooper of Portland, Mrs. B. C. Pinckney entertained with a bridge luncheon at her home last Thursday afternoon. Two tables were in play with Mrs. Phil Ma honey winning high score. WEDNESDAY: A bombing plane landed the equipment at its Pacific destination 10,000 miles from the factory six days after receipt of order.
