Ely of Morgan was one of 300 graduates of the first air mechanics' class of the Lemoore, Cal., army flying school who receiv ed diplomas on June 27 in an im pressive ceremony presided over by Major G. H. Goody, reports the school's public relations department. The heads of the mechanics' school were present, and included 1st Lt. George H.- Carmack, M-Sgt. Sam uel Shulman, and civilian instruct ors C. S. Coy, E. S. Bass, and G. H. Baldrick. In a brief address, Major Goody urged the class to uphold the reputation of the ground school, known as one of the finest in the West Coast Air Force Training cen ters. Top men, the major said, are to be retained as instructors or giv en other key positions. The mech anics' course consists of five weeks of intensive school study in air plane engines, aircraft structures, and general maintenance, supple mented by two weeks work on., the line, where the principles studied in theory are confirmed in prac tical work.
