BIFF AND BANG Mrs. Matilda McCraw Buried at.Rites Here Graveside services were held here Sunday afternoon at Masonic cem etery for Mrs. Matilda Catherine McCraw, 84, resident of Heppner for ten years from 1912 to 1922, who passed away at Woodburn last Thursday following a stroke. Mar tin B. Clark, Christian minister, of ficiated. Interment was beside the grave of Mr. McCraw who died in 1914. Matilda Catherine McCraw was born February 8, 1858 near Mt. Airy, N. C, in which section she was reared to young womanhood and was married to William Jefferson McCraw in 1877. The family moved to Heppner in 1912, and Mrs. Mc Craw continued to reside here until 1922, after her husband's passing in 1914, when she moved to New Ply mouth, Idaho. For the last twelve years she had resided with a daugh ter, Mrs. Sarah M. Williams at Woodburn. Funeral services were held Satur day morning from Gringo's mortu ary at Woodburn. Surviving are the children, Mrs. Floyd Hawks, Fancy Gap, Va.; J. Roby McCraw of Nampa, Idaho; Dixie and Wyatt McCraw of New Plymouth, Idaho; Sarah M. Will iams of Woodburn, and Troy Mc Craw of Portland. Two children died in infancy, and one son Allan died in 1912, another, Green, in 1927. Mrs. William, Roby, Dixie, Wyatt and Troy were all here for the bur ial rites. Mrs. McCraw made many friends in the time of her residence here, and she was highly respected as a good mother and neighbor. Don Jones Advanced Toward Commission University of Oregon, Eugene. May 6. (Special) Don Jones of Hepp ner has been selected for advanced training toward a commission of second lieutenant in the United States army, it was announced this week by the University of Oregon military department. He will receive two years of ad vanced military work and will be graduated in 1944 with a second lieutenant's commission. However, before signing a final contract, he must pass a stiff physical examin ation. Fifty second-year men at the uni versity have been chosen for this training. IMPROVES SAW FILING WORK N. D. Bailey announces that he will receive a new saw-filing ma chine within six weeks that will en large and improve his shop, equipment for this work. The new machine, he says, makes every tooth in the saw the same size and does it up in "great" style. It files circular, band and meat saws as well as carpenter's saws, filing and jointing in one op eration.
