All of the teachers left for insti
tute last Thursday morning. While
Mr. Bennett was there, he made an
appointment for the Heppner F.F.A.
to put on a radio program in La
Grande about March or April. Sat
urday Mr. Bennett went deer hunt
ing and killed a 175-lb. buck.
Saturday Mr. Buhman went hunt
ing up Willow creek but returned
empty-handed.
Mr. Peavy was time-keeper at the
game Saturday.
Have You Wondered
Why John Lane hasn't had a date
yet?
Why Merle Burkenbine's arm is
in a sling?
Where Harry O'Donnell and Fran

Why Richard Hayes was trying
to decipher shorthand?
Whom Bob Applegate was using
his Casanova technique on?
Why Dubby didn't enjoy the social
hour Wednesday evening?
Why Norval Osborne was taking
a fancy to pet pigs?
Which has the highest bid between
Donny Bennett and Lowell Ash
baugh? Why Dorothy Howell didn't see
the first part of the show Sunday
afternoon.
Why Harold Armstrong was alone
Sunday evening with all the "two
somes" around?

GAS HOUSE GOSSIP
By JOE AIKEN
During this week and the first part
of next week will be two big days
as far as Heppner is concerned. Sat
urday, the local lads will go to Con
don and put in an afternoon of pig
skin scrambling. This should be a
much better game than was played
by these two teams two weeks ago
at Heppner. Condon has had a win
tucked under their belts and should
be on the way to recovery. They en
gaged Hermiston in a game and beat
them 13 to 0. Hermiston played Pen
dleton to a close game of 6 to 0 in
the Buck's favor. That alone shows
that Hermiston isn't what one would
term a push over. So when the lads
do go to Condon, they will meet a
greatly improved football team over
the one Heppner defeated 25 to 0
upon their home field.
The following Monday will be the
day which the people of Heppner
have been waiting for. This is the
day that Heppner will meet Arling
ton on the Rodeo field. This should
be the game of the season, because
it was Arlington that spoiled the
chances of an undefeated season for
Heppner. You will recall the locals
journeyed to Arlington and suffered
a defeat of six to nothing. This game
was classed as one of the biggest up
sets of the season. According to dope,
Heppner was figured to have a mar
gin of 40 points. The dopester, how
ever failed to take into considera
tion that when Heppner played Fos
sil, it was the first game of the sea
son for the latter. .When Fossil
played Arlington, it was upon 'Fos
sil's home field, and Fossil was
greatly improved compared to its
meeting with the Mustangs. Later,
Arlington beat Fossil, 19-6, in a re
turn game at Arlington.
In picking the winner one would
have just as much of advantage if
he were to cast all dope sheets aside
and pick his winner by matter of
choice or favorites.
The local sports fans have stated
that they would like to see Heppner
play some "A" school in the Blue
Mountain league. This game would
be possible if every one were to
agree as to the date and the major
issue whether or not a game can be
scheduled. As far as deserving the
chance to meet any team in the Blue

Mountain league, Heppner has won
four out of five games played, a
record to be proud of. It is certain
that there is no doubt as to whether
or not the boys are capable of "A''
league competition.
Here and Yon
It is the hope of Lexington that in
due time they may play a six-man
football game with Heppner.
Heppner has the knack of mak
ing grid history and oddities in the
news. Last Friday against Touchet
they scored three touchdowns with
in one minute of actual playing time.
The lad who retired from the field
in the Condon game again walked
off the field in the Touchet game.
There should be something done to
keep this boy on the field until he
has been replaced. A ball and chain
have been suggested.
Methodist Student
Work Has Birthday
Oregon State College The twenty
fifth anniversary of the founding of
Wesley Foundation work for Meth

years later, making this the fifteenth
aninversary of the founding here.
A total of 735 students at OSC this
year have signified Methodist pref
erence, and many others make use of
the facilities of this branch of the
church work.

Butter Creek Folk
In Car Accident
A serious accident occurred on
Wednesday evening last week when
the car of Frank Helms of Butter
creek and a pick-up driven by Jack
Allen collided at the intersection of
the Echo and Pendleton highways in
Echo, reports the Echo News, which
reports further:
Riding with Helms were his two
daughters, Henrietta and Harriet,
and their friend, Eva Brown of Pen
dleton, who was going home with
Henrietta to spend the week end.
The injuries of Henrietta are quite
serious as she was thrown through
the windshield and has several deep
cuts on her face and one eye was
badly injured. Mr. Helms had sev
eral ribs broken and his knee and
leg were injured, while Harriet was
cut and her teeth were knocked
loose., Eva Brown's injuries were
slight. The injured people were
brought to Echo and given first aid
by Dr. Marbut and were then sent
to the Pendleton hospital. Both cars
were demolished.
4000 OSC Dads
Receive Invitation
Oregon State College Invitations
have gone out to some 4000 dads of
Oregon State college students to at
tend the sixth annual Dads' Day
events at Corvallis Saturday and
Sunday, November 5 and 6.
For once the dads are going to be
given a chance to tour the campus
in earnest, instead of having most
of their time taken up with a major
athletic event, according to Dr. Paul
E. Dutton of Portland, president of
the club.
The officers have deliberately cho
sen a Saturday when there is no
football game, and have arranged
for some rook-sophomore Olympics
to provide brief outdoor entertain
ment. A bag rush, 50-man relay,
pushball and tilting contests have
been planned.
The college band will play for the
annual banquet Saturday night. The
annual business meeting, including
election of officers, will be held Sat
urday forenoon.
Mrs. Archie Padberg and small
daughter were transacting business
in Heppner Tuesday from their
home at Lexington.
