Collection Current Tax Roll Recorded in County Payment by July 21 Necessa ry to Prevent Foreclosure The current tax roll in Morrow county was 39 pet. collected at the end of June, according to the record of turn-overs in the office of Chas. W. Barlow, county clerk. Of the total roll, $271,545.98, there had been collected $159,678.10. Dis counts allowed for payment of year's tax in full amounted to $4,198.18, and interest collected totalled $39.53. The uncollected balance was $111,867.88, The apportionment for each tax sub-division of the county is set out in Mr. Barlow's report to the county court and is on file in his office. Taxpayers who have land subject to foreclosure this year due to non payment of taxes are advised by the sheriffs office that publication of foreclosure notice will start July 21, and that they may prevent foreclo sure by making necessary payments before that date.' Brenner, had the thumb and forefinger of his left hand rather badly hurt by the un tuned explosion of a firecracker. He was taken to a doctor to have the hand dressed and receive tetanus serum. The accident happened at Lehman springs. The Fourth of Juy was very quiet in lone. Many peope spent the day either at Lehman springs or Echo. Others took advantage of the double holiday to visit friends in other towns. At the Bert Mason home a group of friends gathered for a pic nic dinner and supper on their lawn. Among those to enjoy the hos pitality of the Masons were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dick, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. McNamer, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Ture Peterson, Hepp ner, and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Feld man, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Cotter. Mrs. Diantha Akers has returned from Vallejo, Cal., where she has made an extended visit at the home of her son, John Bacon. She is again at the ranch of Cecil Thorne. George Ely made a business trip to Portland last week. Miss Gladys Breshears has re turned from Hood River where she has been employed. James Warfield spent the 4th at Pasco, Wash., visiting relatives. He was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Wesley McNabb. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Griffith and family and Juanita Odom visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howk in Condon Sunday. Their son George remained there for a more extended visit. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bristow are the parents of a daughter born to them at Hood River Monday, July 4. Mrs. James Lindsay is spending the week with her mother, Mrs. Diantha Akers. She is well on the road to complete recovery from her recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Feldman had as guests at their home last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Leedy and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Weinman of Brooks. Mrs. Leedy and Mr. Weinman are cousins of Mr. Feldman. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mankin and family spent the week end at Wal lowa Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray are en joying a vacation at the coast. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Blake and fam ily spent Sunday and Monday 'with relatives in Condon. Mrs. E. C. Heliker returned on Thursday from Pendleton where she has been recuperating from a ton silectomy. Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann and Mrs. E. J. Bristow spent Tuesday at Hood River. The Women's Topic club met at the home of Mrs. C. W. Swanson on Saturday. It was announced that an other six months of NYA assistance would be given the library. This will enable the club to retain Miss Em erald Padberg as librarian. Mrs. Vera Rietmann was elected by unan imous vote to fill the place on the library board left vacant by the res ignation of Mrs. Fannie Griffith. The program for the afternoon was a very interesting review of the book, "The Citadel," by A. J. Cronin given by Miss Emmer Maynard, Mrs. Alva Mason and Mrs. Ruth Mason who were co-hostesses with Mrs. Swansoni At the close of the meeting delicious refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zieke and son Frederick spent the week end with relatives at Enterprise. Mrs. Martin Bauernfeind and chil dren have moved to their cabin on upper Willow creek for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Werner Rietmann spent the Fourth at Hidaway and Lehman springs. Mr. and Mrs. George Snyder were at Wallowa Lake over the Fourth. Edward Reade arrived here Fri day from his home at Waldport. Denny, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swanson, was quite seriously ill Tuesday. Eldon Shannon motored to The Dalles Wednesday and Thursday to Pilot Rock where he delivered oil to the oiling crew. Mrs. C. Coats and daughter Echo, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barlow and Essie Jones arrived home Wednesday from Eugene where they have been visiting. Ruth Kunze arrived home Thurs dav from Portland where she has been visiting. Lester and Clifford Thorpe of Gaston are visiting at the N. Thorpe home. Bob McCutcheon and John Yon ger returned home from Athena Fri day where they have been working. Geraldine Healy left Thursday for Portland whre she will visit over the week end. Ernabelle Peck returned home Friday. Her mother and sister mo tored to The Dalles Friday and she returned home with them. H. R. Parsons motored to Spokane Saturday and returned home Mon dav. Mrs. Parsons returned home with him. Mr. and Mrs. F. Gruber and Herb Brown left for Mica after visiting at the Parsons home. Mr. and Mrs. L. Myers of Starv field spent Saturday visiting Mrs. B. Shannon, and she returned to Stanfield with them. Ruth Fisher spent Saturday visit ing her folks, bhe is working in Pendleton. - Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilson of La Grande spent the week end visiting on the project. Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen and boys, Clayton and Gene, motored to La Grande Saturday where they spent the week end. , Mr. and Mrs. J. f. Gorham and daughter Mardell and Clara Mae Dillon left Saturday . for Moscow where they spent the holidays. Dallas Wilson and Estelli Simms of Portland spent the week end vis iting Mr. Wilson's folks. Bears and daughter of Odell and Mr. and Mrs. S. Siparley dropped in at the S. Rus sell place on their way home from Cascade Locks. Mr. and Mrs. R. Gilbreth and family of The Dalles, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gilbreth and Mr. Hecker of Port land spent the week end visiting at the P. DeMaro place. Mrs. L. Loise and sister Selesti and niece of Chicago visited at the V. Colloso place and the two famil ies motored to Portland to spend the holidays. An old time picnic was held at Mr. Wasmere's home Monday. Those present were the Ransier family, Mr. Harrington, the Martin family, the Kunze family, Mr. Gardner, Al bert Duelin and the Faler family. JUNIORS AT COVE Heppner"s contingent of junior enrollees at Cove Ascension summer school were taken there Sunday, following arrival home last week of the group of senior enrollees. Among juniors in attendance are James Barratt, Philip Cohn, Dorotha Wil son, Howard Gilliam and Kingsley Chapin. Taking them to Cove were Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Cohn, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ferguson, Mrs. J. G. Barratt and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hodecker and two children, the Hodecker family being guests at the Barratt home from their home at Camas, Wash. Thursday. Lands Closed to Entry Acting under authority vested in him in Section 42-409 of the Ore gon laws, 1937, the Governor of the state of Oregon has closed to all pntrv all lands under operation by the Kinzua Pine Mills Co. because of the high hazard caused by ex cessive amounts of inflammable de bris from logging operations and beetle-killed timber. This closure is limited to an area in Ts. 6 and 7 S.. Rs. 22, 23, and 24 E. The closed area will be indicated on the ground by special posters.
