The total score for lone was 29, for Lexington 74. Ellwynne Peck of Lexington was high point man of the meet. School was dismissed for most of the afternoon, April 18, because of the funeral services taking place on that date. Wednesday was Senior Sneak day, and they took the rest of the school quite by surprise. The "sneakers" accompanied by Mr. Campbell, took a motor trip to Bend by way of the John Day highway. Kenneth Jackson has been absent from school several days due to a case of chickenpox, and Dan Dinges has been absent because of an ap pendicitis operation. Both boys should be back in school soon. The Girls' League sent three rep resentatives to the Tri-State League conference at Pendleton, April 22 and 23. The girls who went were Doris Scott, Doris Padberg and Max ine Way. Miss Reed and Mrs. Ralph Scott also attended the meeting. The girls brought back much valuable material for the use of the league. Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Ryan and chil dren motored to Moro Friday to at tend the funeral of Carl McCain, a close friend of the family. Mrs. Eslie Walker with her two children ac . companied them as far as Wasco where they visited her mother, Mrs. Berta Cantwell. Mrs. Stephen Thompson and son Terry of Pendleton visited at the John Lasich home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Basey of Wa pato were in this community Sun day. Dan Dinges who underwent an operation at St. Anthony's hospital recently returned to his home here Sunday. George Payne of Athena is visiting with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cutler Clarence Carmichael made a bus iness trip to Pendleton Tuesday. Guests at the E. C. Daugherty home Saturday and Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Smith and daugh ter Colleen of Blalock and Mr. and Mrs. R. S. McKinney of Olex. Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Deulen left Sunday by auto for Joplin, Mo., where they expect to spend a month. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Barnett, Dona E. Barnett and Mrs. Trina Parker motored to Pendleton Sunday after noon to see Mr. Barnett's brother, Chas. P. Barnett, who is very ill in St. Anthony's hospital. Jackson Implement Co. delivered a new T. D. 40 diesel tractor and a new D 30 ton and a half truck to Orville Cutsforth this week. The last P. T. A. meeting of the school year will be held in the school auditorium May 11th. Every one come. Mr. and Mrs. Eslie Walker and family have moved to the Louis Marquardt ranch. A bazaar and food sale will be held in the I. O. O. F. hall Friday, May 6th. Hours 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. Given by Three Links club of the Rebekah lodge. Many nice handmade articles will be for sale. You can easily find a gift for mother among these. At 3 p. m. a quilt will be given away. Rev. Joel R. Benton will be here again Sunday at the Christian church to hold services at 11 a. m. RHEA CREEK NEWS By Ruth Bergstrom Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Olden are here visiting Mrs. Olden's sons, Wal ter and Noel Dobyns. The Oldens have been making their home at Gresham since leaving the ranch. The Henry Peterson family are having a siege of scarlet fever at their home in the Rocky Bluff dis trict. While Ben Anderson was cranking the tractor Tuesday morning it kick ed back, injuring his face quite badly. Although no bones were bro ken he was badly bruised. It sounds like the old Model T days. Mrs. Frank Parker has been spending a few days in Portland visiting her daughter Marjorie who is attending school there. Ray Wright is still on the sick list He has been having a siege of flu. Grange will meet Sunday, May 1, with potluck dinner at noon. BIG GROWTH SHOWN W. W. Luckman returned from a visit to Cecil Sunday, bringing some volunteer barley 42 inches high and alfalfa 36 inches whiah he displayed as evidence of the wonderful growth being made by vegetation in that section. Better Water Systems Aim Farm Campaign A definite campaign in selected Oregon counties to assist farmers in obtaining better water supples for the farm homes is announced by the Oregon State college extension ser vice. Everett Davis, extension special ist in agricultural engineering, will devote most of the summer months to this project. Extensive work will be carried on in Columbia and Was co counties, with some follow-up work in Jackson county and proba bly in Josephine. Recent reports of home betterment committees in the county outlook conferences indicated that the strongest desire on the part of home makers for improved facilities is for running water in the houses. Davis will conduct demonstratons of successful rural home water sys tems and will hold community meet ings with county extension agents for those interested in making such improvements. He will also cooper ate with local dealers in encouraging displays of water system equipment. "Water system improvement may range all the way from installing a pitcher pump in the kitchen, con nected with a shallow well or cis tern, to the development of com munity gravity water systems to bring water from mountain streams," says Davis. Plans for such gravity systems are being made at present in Columbia county where he plans his first campaign. Farmers living on diked land ajong the Columbia river are having dififculty with water sup plies, and are planning to form wa ter associations to pipe supplies from the hills. Edwin Hughes was in town Tues day from the farm home at Lena, still hobbling around on crutches and carrying one foot in a cast as the result of breaking his ankle recent ly. He reported the injured member to be recovering nicely, however. Air Mail Cachets Set Week May 15-21 Arrangements have been com pleted for Air Mail cachets to be used during National Air Mail week, May 15-21, by every post office in Oregon, it was announced today by E. T. Hedlund, Oregon state chair man for National Air Mail week. Stamp and cove collectors thru out the United States have been ad vised to send their air mail stamped, and self-addressed envelopes to the postmasters in Oregon with a re quest for cachet and mailing during National Air Mail week. Cachets for first flight covers on May 19th will originate at Ontario, Baker, La Grande, Pendleton, Arlington, The Dalles, Lakeview, Klamath Falls, Bend, Prineville, Redmond, Medford, Grants Pass, Roseburg, Cottage Grove, Corvallis, Marshfield, Lake side, Eugene, Albany, Salem, Sil verton, Troutdale, Astoria, Tilla mook, Hillsbro, Oregon City and Beaverton, terminating at Portland. Guy Chapin of Hardman was among men of that vicinity attend ing the Morrow County Hunters and Anglers club meeting here Monday evening.
