Electricity Contracts
Signed at Meeting

The second rural electrification
meeting was held Monday evening.
The people signed up the contracts
for the electricity.
Mrs. Sadie Allen and her son' and
grandson of Los Angeles stopped at
the Baker home Monday on their
way to La Grande.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Barlow of
Heppner visited friends and rela
tives in Boardman Sunday. Edith
Marie returned from Portland where
she has been attending school.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gorham, Kate,
Janet and Madell Gorham and Mrs.
Talbot spent Sunday at Multnomah
falls. Kate and Janet Gorham went
from there on to Portland where
they will spend several weeks vis
iting. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Thomas mo
tored to Hermiston Saturday where
they purchased a new electric re
frigerator. Lawrence Narkoski visited his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nar
koski, over the week end.
Miss Essie Jones is now working
at Tom's camp.
A dredge crew arrived this week
to work in the river. This is the sec
ond crew to work here on the river.
The Greenfield grange has plan
ned a picnic at Coyote for Sunday
afternoon.
Mrs. Talbot of California arrived
Friday to visit her sister, Mrs. J. F..
Gorham, and her mother, Mrs. Blay
den. Mrs. Eva Warner, who has been
visiting in Seattle, returned to her
home in Boardman this week.
Miss Mildred Ayers is working
for Mrs. A. R. Hug, who has infec
tion in her thumb.
The conservation crew which was
here earlier in the summer has
returned to finish the work which
they had started.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hadley, Mar
garet Myers and Mrs. Myers were
Pendleton visitors this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Root were busi
ness visitors in Hermiston Tuesday.
Mike Healy received the job as
mail carrier between the post office
and the train.
Mrs. J. F. Gorham, Mrs. Talbot
and Mardell were visitors in Pendle
ton Monday.
OSC Alumni Invited to
Jantzen Beach Picnic
Portland Oregon state college al
umni in Multnomah county are plan
ning to entertain alumni from all
parts of the state who may be able
to attend a big picnic at Jantzen
beach park here Sunday, August 8.
The picnic begins at 11 o'clock and
continues all afternoon. There will

Capt. Harry L. Beard, veteran di
rector of the Oregon State band, has
invited all former bandsmen to bring
their instruments and join present
members in supplying music for the
occasion.
The annual Oregon State Dad's
picnic, also to be held at Jantzen
beach, is scheduled for Wednesday
evening, August 25.
William S. Bennett, Smith-Hughes
instructor in the local schools, was
a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lucas
at Ritter springs over the week end
and enjoyed some fishing in the
north fork of the John Day river.

State of Oregon, at their office in the
City Hall, up to 6 P. M., August 9,
1937; (a) for paving with an oil mat
surface treatment of approximately
thirty -three thousand square yards
(33,000 sq. yds.) of roadway and
street in the City of Heppner; (b)
for surfacing with a macadam finish
approximately five thousand feet
(5000 feet) of roadway and street in
the said City of Heppner; (c) for
crushing and arranging one thous
and cubic yards (1000 cu, yds.) of
gravel into a stock pile for the use
of the said City of Heppner.
