Big Increase Foreseen
In OSC Freshman Class
Corvallia. Heavy increase in ad
vance registration of graduate stu
dents and of students transferring
from other institutions is noted in
the general increase in applications
to attend Oregon State college this
fall. While a tendency to irpt In
applications early accounts for some
01 tne indicated Increase, a sub
stantial rise in freshman enroll
ment is indicated.
Applications accented and nenrl
lng totaled 751 compared with 498
In 1934 on the same August date, an
increase of more than 50 per cent.
inai rreshman registration last
year for the first term was 1027, or
approximately twice the late Aug
ust figures. Heaviest increase I
noted in schools whose graduates
have been in heavy demand for po
sitions lately.
Tentative applications are belni?
received by E. B. Lemon, registrar,
ror assistance under the National
Youth administration employment
aid. Application blanks are avail
able on request Assistance for the
same proportion of needy and wor
thy undergraduate students as was
available last year has been assured,
giving Oregon State college $4545
a month to provide supplementary
emergency employment for more
man ouu students.

mis year is tne rollowlng story, told
to Mr. Knox recently by M. L. De
Martin. Mr. DeMartin took less
than a pound of the poison barley
with him as he went after the cows
one evening and distributed it near
the trail as he went. Returning in
less than an hour he counted 18
dead squirrels. The next day he
took along a box and picked up 40
dead squirrels on top of the ground,
while many others had undoubted
