Correspondent The North Morrow County fair will be Friday and Saturday, Sep tember 11 and 12, In the gymnasium in Boardman. A movie, "Sealed Lips." will be shown In the school auditorium Friday evening, and on Saturday evening a dance will be given. The Kufman orchestra from Pendleton will furnisn tne music. Mr. and Mrs. Nate Maeomber and Sybil Grace motored to Pilot Rock Saturday evening. Mr. Maeomber returned home Sunday evening. Mrs. Maeomber will work in the postofnee at Pilot ock for a week. S. H. Boardman of Salem was a business visitor in Boardman Fri day. Mrs. Ray Brown and Katherine returned home Thursday from a visit with relatives in Washington Rev. and Mrs. W. O. Miller stop ped in Boardman for a short time Friday on their way to Portland where they will spend a few days. Bethmyrl Miller who spent the week in Redmond returned home Friday evening with Ella Miller and Harry Van Ausdale of Redmond. On Saturday Miss Miller and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Miller, and Mr. Van Ausdale motored to Pendleton to attend the Round-Up. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown and Katherine were guests at a lovely dinner Saturday evening at the Carrol Kennedy home. Basil Cramer left Monday for his home at Colville, Wash. Basil has been spending the summer months in Boardman. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Skoubo Sunday, August 30, at Hermiston. Hector Wicklander has returned to Boardman and is working on the Al Bolsted ranch. Mrs. Martha Titus, Earl Cramer, Warren Dillon, Francis Titus and Basil Cramer attended the Round Up Saturday. Glenn Garret, former resident of Boardman who now lives near Med ford, is visiting this week at the Richardson home. Miss Bethmyrl Miller spent the week-end in La Grande. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cooney spent several days in Condon last week. On Wednesday they attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith, aunt and un cle of Mr. Cooney. There were over 100 guests present at the wedding breakfast The Cooneys returned home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Buskirk and daugh ter spent the week end in Pendle ton. George Wicklander Jr., who has been in Salem for the past month returned home Monday. Alice Calkins and friend from Jefferson visited several days last week at the Marschat home. They came to Boardman with friends go ing to the Round-Up. They return ed home Sunday. Miss Mabel Brown spent the week end at Lyle, Wash., where she will teach this year. s A F E T Y & The Lid's Off! Russell and Vernon who have been in Prineville for several weeks, returned home Sat urday. Mrs. Agee returned home Sunday from lone where she has worked for the past month. O. F. Strobel visited at the home of his son. W. Strobel, Saturday and Sunday. Miss Hattie Schultz left Saturday for Chicago. Miss Schultz. niece of Carl Doring, has been in Boardman for the past year and a half. The Home Economics club and Ladies Aid will serve dinner in the school cafeteria during the fair, September 11 and 12. The price will be 35c for adults and 25c for children. Mr. and Mrs. Al Maeomber and family of Fossil motored to Board man Saturday morning. Mr. Ma comber returned home Sunday. On Monday Mrs. Maeomber and fam ily, Mrs. Leo Root and Vernon, Mrs. M. E. Root and Barbara of Hermis ton and Emma Agee left for Cor vallis for a week's visit at the W. H. Mefford and the J. E. Barlow homes Vernon Root, graduate of the class of 31, will remain in Port land and will enter the Decker bus iness college September 7th. He will take a course in accounting. Miss Barbara Root of Hermiston will also enter the Decker college in September. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hughes and familv of Heppner visited at the Mike Healey home Thursday. Mary Healey returned to Heppner with them. Mrs. Waite went to Pendleton Friday to visit friends and attend the Round-Up. Mr. Waite joined her Sunday and they both returned home in the evening. Mrs. Lee Mead and daughter Hel en spent the week end in La Grande. Miss Francis Spike is visiting at the L. E. Marschat home this week. Miss Spike will teach in The Dalles high school again this year. Mr. and Mrs. Waldemar Ander son of Portland visited a short time at the I. Skoubo home last week when on their way to the Round Up. Mrs. Chester Packard spent sev eral days visiting at the Leslie Packard home last week. On Sat urday Mr. and Mrs. C. Parkard re turned to their home in Seattle. Mr. Packard had been visiting here for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Eden Larson of Vancouver are visiting friends and relatives on the project this week. They attended the Round-Up, and will go to the Rodeo at Heppner this week. Mr. Larson took part in the Round-Up. Buster Rands has won quite a name for himself as a rider of steers and bucking horses since he rode in the Round-Up last week He will take in the Rodeo at Hepp ner and try his luck there. Glenn Rutherford also took part in the Round-Up. Mr. and Mrs. John Jenkins en tertained at a lovely dinner Thurs- S E R V I C E day. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Chester Packard, Mr. and Mrs. Les lie Packard, Howard Packard, and Mr. and Mrs. Lowel Spagle and son. The Irrigation board met with the county commissioners some time ago to discuss the special road tax which was passed last spring, but which has not been collected. The majority of the farmers had worked out their portion of the tax by working on the project roads, but word had been passed around that they would not be given credit for the work done. But at this meeting of the commissioners it was agreed that the tax would be paid by the county from the gen eral road fund and from what has been collected from the special tax. Credit for this will not be given un til some time in January. A meet ing will be held next week by the irrigation board when the salaries of the employees will be lowered and all expenses cut as low as pos sible. It is hoped that a cut of about 40c per acre will be made on the maintenance charges. In Oc tober there will be an equalization meeting to which all the farmers are invited to meet with the board and discuss their problems and dif ficulties. E. W. Peck, local business man has installed a fine modern meat market in his service station. The showcase, which is about eight feet long and of green tile, is fully equipped with the Frigidaire sys tern. Mr. Peck intends to buy local stock and do the butchering him self and will have a good assort ment of meat at reasonable prices. School will start Monday morn ing, September 7. The teachers for the coming year are L. E. Marschat, superintendent, Miss Miriam Camp bell and W. O. King, high school. Miss Rhoda Shellenberger, 1st and 2nd grades. Miss Katherine Brown. 3rd and 4th grades, Mrs. Martha Titus, 5th and 6th grades, and John Steelhammer, 7th and 8th grades, Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Kennedy are moving into the Frank Cramer house this week. Dinner guests at the Rutherford home Sunday were Richard Kintz ley and son Roy of Arlington, Mr, and Mrs. Eden Larson and Ada Wilbanks. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Louis Weatherell and family of Arlington, Mr. and Mrs. Botte- miller and Buster Rands joined the group. GUILTY OF ASSAULT. The jury in Justice Huston's court Monday found Ed LeTrace guilty of assault and battery on a charge resulting from an alterca tion between members of the Le trace and Clarence Reid families over a piece of water pipe. Wm. LeTrace was acquitted of the charge of the use of abusive and obscene language placed against him. Counter charges of use of improper language were made by the LeTraces against the Reids.
