Earl Heffner of Eagle, Idaho, George Canwell of Spokane, Wash., and George Martin of Hermiston were week-end visitors at the Vea Attebury home. The Meads had as their guests Sunday Mrs. J. A. Fleck and Mr. and Mrs. Kortge and family of The Dalles and Mr. and Mrs. Kroon of Robert Nickerson family were guests at the Charles Nickerson home Sunday. The teachers elected for the school for the coming year are L. E. Marschat; superintendent. Miss Miriam Campbell, home economics; W. O. King, high school; Miss Rho da Shellenberger, first and second grades; Miss Katherine Brown, third and fourth grades; Mrs. Mar tha Titus, fifth and sixth grades, and Wm. L. Daley, seventh and eighth grades. Mrs, Slanger has charge of the hotel during Mrs. Denson 'a absence. Bill Harnden Is taking care of the store. Miss Leila Ware who is on her way home to Mid vale, Idaho, stop ped over at the Strobel home for a short visit. Miss Ware, who is Mrs. Strobel's niece, has been at tending Linfield college at McMinn ville during the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Brice Dillabough and family departed Sunday for Medford for the state grange con vention. Al Hiatt of Echo was a business visitor in Boardman Friday. The Kunze and Smith families had picnic dinner at the river Sun day. On Friday Mrs. Rands, Katherine Brown. Mrs. Chaffee and son Allen and Mrs. Brown motored to Pen dleton and Echo. Dr. Thompson of The Dalles co operated with Miss Edith Stallard, the county nurse, in conducting a free baby clinic last Tuesday morn ing at the school house. This clinic was for all children of pre-school Carlton E. Pepper, attorney of The Dalles, was in the city for a short time on Tuesday while at tending to legal affairs. Mrs. Ray Brown and daughter Katherine and Hattie Schultz also left Sunday for the state grange. They will camp along the way. The Boardman baseball team was badly defeated Sunday when they motored to Lexington to play ball. une score was 13-6. Deibert Johnson spent the week end at home. He is now working at Arlington. The annual school election will be held Monday, June 15 at 2 p. m. At this time two directors will be elec ted, one to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Mead who has served on the school board for the past three years, and the other to fill the va cancy left by the resignation of Charles Wciklander. A new clerk is also to be elected at this meet ing. Mrs. Lee Mead has been clerk for the last three years. The large gasoline tanks at the Standard Oil plant here have been taken down and shipped away. Lo cal men assisted in loading them, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Johnson and E. T. Messenger motored to The Dalles Saturday. Tom Brew is slowly recovering irom a burn received last week. Mr. Brew dropped a lighted match on his overalls which caught fire and severely burned his foot and lee. Neighbors have been helping him ana at present he Is able to walk Mrs. D. W. Miller and Mrs. Mar tha Titus left Wednesday for La Grande where they will attend the graduation exercises of Bethmyrl Miller who graduates from E. O. N, this term. Mrs. Miller will return home Thursday and Mrs. Titus will stay for a few days visit with rela tives. Mr. Sauders was a business visit or in Arlington Monday. Francine King and LaVerne Bak er left Sunday by train for Cor vallis where they will attend the 4-H summer school at the Oregon State college. Francine is a mem ber of the sheep club and LaVerne is a member of the home making club. Mr. and Mrs. Macomber and Sybil Grace spent the week end in Pilot Rock. On Sunday Mr. Macomber played in the golf tournament for Pilot Rock. Robert Smith is in the Longview Memorial hospital as the result of an automobile accident Friday on the Columbia River highway five miles west of Rainier. Mr. Smith and a party of Portland folks were on their way to Cannon beach. The car in which they were riding fail ed to make the turn and turned over on the highway. Mr. Smith suffered several head lacerations and other injuries. Mr. Burnett of Biggs is the relief operator at Mess ner while Mr. Smith is on his va cation. , Mr. and Mrs. Dugan and family were Portland visitors several days last week. S. H. Boardman was a Boardman visitor last week. The special election held last Wednesday at the school house to vote on a bond issue, authorizing the school board to convert eight per cent warrants into 514 per cent bonds, was carried by a vote of 17-2.
