HEPPNER GAZETTE TIMES, HEPPNER, OREGON, THUR SPAY, MARCH 28, 1929. PAGE FOUR tor the 1 1 Ml by Nancu tlart We are apt to overlook the dec orative possibilities of the bird cage which, when good to look at, adds a most homelike touch to rooms. The new cages are very attractive and can be had in dozens of colors green, blue, red, coral, Persian sil ver and combinations of the same colors. In general they will be found in brass, finished in a great variety of colors applied by the du- co process lust as cars are nnisned or they may be light-weight cages made of a substance that resembles Imitation iovry. With seed cups colored to match with graceful tassels and wrought stands or wall brackets they be come bird "residences" rather than cages and fit charmingly into all schemes of decoration. An Economical Menu Cream of corn soup Beef patties Escalloped potatoes Harvard beets Pear salad Fresh cocoanut cake Coffee Eggs Stuffed with Shrimp For a delicious salad try this one; Cut hard-boiled eggs in half, re move yolks and mix to a smooth paste with mayonnaise and chopped shrimp, blended with whipped cream mayonnaise. Refill the egg shells, place on crisp lettuce, top with dressing, garnish with capers or chopped pickle. Fried Olery Cut celery in inch pieces, and cook until tender in salted water. Drain, dip in a standard batter and fry to a light brown in btef suet or butter. m Ever Stew Bananas? Peel six bananas and slice them. In a saucepan put hi cup sugar and hi cup water; add the bananas and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and stew for half an hour or until the fruit is very soft. Serve cold, with whip ped cream or plain cream, if pre ferred. Walnut Cookies Beat together an egg and a cup of sugar; add 2 tablespoons of flour sifted with a pinch of salt; then add a cup of crushed or chopped wal nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on a but tered baking sheet and bake in a moderate oven for 15 minutes. Apple Improves Vegetable Soup When you make an old-fashioned vegetable soup, add a diced apple and the flavor will be greatly im proved. THE FALL OF THE "BASTILE." (Contributed.) A fact worthy of comment is that this age of democracy has seen the fall of many monuments of tyrrany. History has repeated itself recently when the Hardman bastile was be siged by the forces of destruction. According to reports of eye witness es, the burning mass, like a veri table Vesuvius, with its clouds of smoke and hungry .flames, present ed a brilliant spectacle. An object of speculation, yet one appropriate to the scene might have been a Nero playing "Farewell to Thee." How ever the fire was attributed to in cendiary origin. Nevertheless the burning of the Hardman prison on Saturday night caused deep regret on the part of some of the citizens because it marked the destruction of an historic landmark. It is to be hoped that the townspeople shall not be submitted to a similar se quence to that memorable revolu tionary episode. Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Shaw of Clarks canyon were business visitors in the city Saturday. IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE STATE OF OREGON FOR MORROW COUNTY. MORROW COUNTY.
