Contrast this Wright plane with the modern Fokker passenger plane, shown below it, and the tre mendous progress of aviation in 25 years can be seen at a glance. The original airplane of the Wright Brothers which is really only a motored glider is on exhibition at South Kensington, London, The first flight of Urvilk; Wnght took place at Kill Devil Hill, Kitty Hawk. It Is reassuring to note the unan imity of approval In the American press, regardless of politics, of President-elect Hoover's plan ,to vlBlt the countries of Latin-America on a good will tour before his In auguration. To that general ap proval we respectfully add our por tion. Relations ' between the United States and Latin-Amertea have been steadily improving, during the past few years, despite the efforts of European Interests and American disturbers to make the situation otherwise. The proof of this Is not to be found In mere words, but In the fact that our trade with Latin America Is steadily increasing. Hare is the real measure of International feeling. Nations which are grad ually becoming better customers of each other are bound to becohie bet ter friends. The business man al ways has a friendlier feeling for his own customers than those of his competitor. That is only human nature. Now the principal difficulty be tween Uncle Sam and the nations to the south has been a lack of mu tual understanding. Where there has been misunderstanding of mo tives there has been friction. And this misunderstanding has been fos tered by our European trade rivals, and more or less unconsciously by many so-called "liberals" In our own country. European news Interests control practically all the foreign news agencies operating In South America and they have made good use of this fact to criticize either openly or covertly the foreign poli cies of the United States. Hence the term "Ameriqan imperialism" which seemed to arise so suddenly and mysteriously a few months ago. And it is equally true that we do not know as much about the ideals of our Latin neighbors as we should know. It follows obviously that the way to clear up misunderstanding be tween two partieh is to get them better acquainted. President-elect Hoover doubtless had this in mind when he decided on a trip to sev eral of the Latin-American repub lics before March 4. Certainly Mr. Hoover will be an admirable em bassy of good will. In the first place he will carry weight as the President-elect of the United States. In the second place he has a keen grasp on international problems and 85 Sri s7 m By Helena Rubinstein mm mm And, M the bright ran glorifies the sky So is har fao Illumined by her eye. Shakespeare, I cannot tell you how it distresses me to see the neglect to which most American women subject their eyes. Great thought is given to the com plexion, the slender silhouette, the throat-line; but the eyes they are quite forgotten. , Do you know the sum of a wo man's birthdays is written in her eyes, and that after twenty-five life begins to etch fine lines around them, to slightly alter the smooth ness of the lids? Intelligent care and only that can keep eyes ageless. And I, your beauty specialist, will gladly teach you how to give them what they need if you will promise to be faithful and follow instructions! Morning or evening, bathe the eyes with warm water containing a pinch of boric acid. Relax; satur ate pads of cotton In the boric so lution and place over the eyes, re newing several times. Then lightly film the eyelids with a soothing cream and with fingertips pointing downward, "comb" the upper lids with upward strokes. You can successfully combat lines and crowsfeet by bathing the eyes as directed; then spread a nourish ing cream beneath the eyes and at the temples; "comb" the uper eye lids; pat gently under the eyes as If "finger-printing"; and always pat from the temples toward the nose. To relax muscles and stimulate circulation of the eyes, rest the el bows on a table, supporting the chin with the thumbs. Move the third fin ger across the upper eyelids in light rotary strokes from the inner cor ner of the eyes outward then in ward on the lower lid. Beginning between the brows, run the fingers In firm, gentle strokes over the eye brows to the outer corner of the eyes and finish with a light circular movement. When years of neglect have left their imprint It Is usually necessary to give the eyes a more elaborate treatment. After cleansing the face, clear the eyes with a good eye lo tion and lay upon them a pack of soothing herbs dipped in watr as hot as can be borne. Repeat two or three times, then film the eye lids with cream and proceed with the special movements. But try these simple rules for keeping eyes forever young and you will not regret the ten or fifteen minutes a day required to apply them. The-New York Times has sum med up the proposed trip of Mr. Hoover admirably by stating: "It will be within the power of Mr. Hoover to sweep away much of the lingering misunderstanding. He is doubly equipped for such an un dertaking. Through the .fine work of the department of commerce he has acquired a comprehensive grasp of the great possibilities of devel- ing trade between South. America and the United States. Upon its growing Importance he has dwelt again and again in his annual re ports. He will go as President-elect of the United States. His very voy age and presence will be a splendid gesture of friendship. Nothing so noteworthy in its bearing upon this particular international question has occurred since Mr. Root, when Secretary of State, made his tour of South America. In all its lead ing capitals he received a warm welcome, both official and popular, and his measured words of friend ship made a deep impression at the time upon South American senti ment Mr. Hoover should be able to do even more to reassure and win over the governments and the public with which he comes in con tact His trip was happily con ceived, and bids fair to have the happiest result" Ntalonal Repub lic. , W. A gear pump in the bot tom of the oil pan raises the oil to the valve chamber reservoir. From here it . flows on to the main crank shaft bearings and the front camshaft bearing. Overflow oil drops into the oil pan tray and runs into troughs through which the connect ing rods pass. As the ends of these rods strike the oil they scoop np a supply for the connecting rod bearing. At the same time they set up a fine spray that lubricates the pistons and other moving parts. ' From the tray the oil runs into the bottom of the pan, and is again drawn up through a fine mesh screen and pumped to the valve chamber. This system is so effective that the five-quart contents of the oil pan pass through the pump twice in every mile when yon are traveling at only 30 miles an hour. Yet there is only one movable part the oil pump. As a matter of fact, the lubrication system for the new Ford is so simple-in de sign and so carefully made that it requires practically no service attention. There is just one thing for you to do, but it is a very important thing . . . watch the oil! Change the oil every 500 miles and be sure the indicator rod never reg isters below low (L). If the oil level is allowed to fall below low, the supply becomes insufficient to oil all parts as they should be oiled. To insure best perform ance it is also advisable to have the chassis of your car lubricated every 500 miles. This has been made easy in the new Ford through the use of the high pressure grease gun system. Proper oiling and greas ing mean so much to the life of your car that they should not be neglected or care lessly done. So your Ford dealer reg ularly. He is especially well fitted to lubricate the new Ford and he will do a good, thorough job at a fair price.
