PAGE SEVEN LgnS Emm wm Mrs. Martin Stewart departed (or Eugene Sunday to be with her sis ter who was wounded by a gun shot near there early that day. Her sis ter, Mrs. Etta Wyland, was shot by her divorced husband, James Wy land, after he had shot and killed William Ek, whom he declared was responsible for the separation. Mrs. Wyland was employed as cook at the planing mill of Lewis Peters Lumber company at Pengra, and was engaged in the kitchen at the time of shooting. A large number of Morrow coun ty people attended the Pacific In ternational Livestock exposition in Portland last week, among them be ing R. A. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. McNamer, T. J. O'Brien, Ed Nelll, Ralph Justus, Jack Hynd, R. W. Turner, W. W. Smead, P. M. Gemniell, Joe Kenny, Garnet Bar ratt, Joe and Jerry Brosnan, and Harold Eskelson, Ruth Dinges and Doris Wilcox, the club stock judg ing team of Lexington. The current year's special study topic, "Africa," will be begun at the next meeting of the Women's For eign Missionary society of the Methodist church. This meeting will be called to order promptly at 2:30 p. m., next Tuesday, November 20, in the church parlors. Members and visitors, who will be most wel come, are urged to be on time for the opening number of the program, If possible. Secretary. Guests at the Gay M. Anderson home are Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sor ber, parents of Mrs. Anderson, from Long Beach, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Sorber expect to remain here until after Thanksgiving. A sister of Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. J. E. Lawrence and Mr. Lawrence, from Portland, were visitors at the Anderson home over Armistice Day. Antone Cunha, Lena stockman, was a visitor in the city Tuesday. Mr. Cunha expects another year to have a fair supply of alfalfa hay, having planted two fields last year, and another this year. Next year the first two fields should produce a good crop, he says. Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Parker re turned home Tuesday from a week's visit at Joseph at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Dorris Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wells of Pen dleton were Heppner visitors Arm istice Day, being guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bergstrom de parted this week for Prescott, Wn., where they will engage in farming. Mr. and Mra R. E. Allstott were Heppner visitors Tuesday from their home in Eight Mile. ELIGIBLE FOB HONORS. University of Oregon, Eugene, Nov. 147-(Special) Vawter Parker of Heppner is one of the students recently announced at the Univer sity of Oregon as eligible for hon ors. Only students with high grade averages, and who have done very good work during their college years, are on the list If they wish, they will be permitted to do special research work and take a special ex amination in order to graduate with honors. Parker is a senior at the Eugene institution where he is a major in economics. LEGION AUXILIARY. The regular meeting of Heppner Unit, American Legion Auxiliary, will be held November 20. Hostesses will be Mesdames J. B. Barratt and A. W. Jones. Mr. Burkenbine won the Hope Chest presented at the Legion dance November 10. Money derived from this chest will be used for relief, hospital and child welfare work. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gemmell were ' guests at the annual Armistice ban quet given by Hermlston American Legion and Auxiliary Monday eve ning, November 12. There was an attendance of one hundred and twenty-five people. Earl Snell of Arlington was the principal speaker of the evening. RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT. In Memory of Brother J. C. Kirk, Who Died October 20, 1928. Once again death hath summoned a Brother Oddfellow and the Golden Gateway to the Eternal City has opened to welcome him to his home. He has completed his work in the ministering to the wants of the af flicted, in shedding light into dark ened souls, and in bringing joy in to the places of misery, and as his reward has received the plaudit "well done" from the Supreme Mas ter. And whereas, the Allwlse and Merciful Master of the Universe has called our beloved and respected brother home, and he having been a true and faithful member of our beloved order, therefore be it Resolved, that Willow Lodge No. 66, I.
