SPARKS FROM THE CAMPFIRE.
Last Saturday morning the girls
of the Oheskchamay group started
out on a hike at 6 o'clock. They
hiked as far as the Alfalfa Lawn
Dairy and had breakfast around
their camp fires, after which they
toasted mafshmnllows. Then the
group went on a tour of inspection
of the dairy, making friends with
the cows and pips. After a real
good time they hiked home, promis
ing themselves that they would
make another trip to Alfalfa Lawns
in the near future. Tuesday the
regular meeting of the group en
tertained their mothers. Mrs. A.
McAtee talked to the girls about
the camp at Sandy. The girls are
all very anxious to go for a week or
two. The Cheskchamay girls will
serve at the father and son banquet
this evening.
Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Sigsbee de
parted today for Portland where
they will pick up their daughter,
Elaine, and go on to Punsmuir,
Cal., for a visit of a few days with
their other daughter, Bernice. They
expect to be back home the end of
next week.

There will be a high mass next
Sunday, April 22, in the Church in
Heppner, at 8:30, preceded by the
hearing of confessions. The pas
tor will preach at this mass, and
immediately after he will go to the
Sands or the Juniper country for a
second mass at 10:30. He will also
preach at this service. In the eve
ning at 7:30 there will be rosary,
litany, prayers, instruction, and Ben
ediction of the Blessed Sacrament
On Saturday of this week, that of
April 21st, there will be the usual
mass for the children of the Cate
chism class and parents must see
that all their children are present
at this mass which will occur at 7:30
to be followed by singing, which will
be directed by the pastor.
On Friday afternoon, at 4:00 and
on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 there
will be instruction in Christian Doc
trine for all children in lone and
surrounding country. The pastor
expects every child to assist and the
Instruction will be given in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. A. Lindeken.
These instructions are given in
preparation for first Holy Commun
ion, and Confirmation.
The pastor is projecting a Society
of Catechists to be composed of ma
ture boys and girls, no one under
fourteen years of age, whose object
will be the systematic teaching of
Christian Doctrine in all the mis
sions of the county and parish.
Those seeking admission must vol
unteer for the work and the recom
pense shall be the joys and the
glory of doing such work in the
parish in behalf of children.
Owing to the lateness of the sea
son and the urgency of certain mat
ters the official visitation of the pas
tor in the Heppner homes will be
postponed until the visitation of
families in the country is complet
ed. On Monday and Tuesday after
noons at 3.45 and at 4:15, there will
be the usual instructions by the
pastor in the parish rectory, and
these instructions will continue un
til the close of the schools. Par
ents must see that their children
are faithfully attending these instructions.

with her mother. Mrs. Mary McDaniel.
A little 7lj-lb. girl came to make her
home with Mr. and Mrs. Marion Saling.
She arrived on April 14.
Miss Blanche Howell was visiting rel
atives and friends here last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ashbaugh of Van
couver. Wash., have been guests at the
home of Fred Ashbaugh.
Roe Bleakman and Blaine Chapel have
been taking the rough spots out of the
roads with the county road scraper,
which improves them very much.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Steers went to
Lone Rock Friday where they will
work.
Mrs. Ch.ipin has been ill with a se
vere cold, but is recovering nicely.
