T FOR MARCH TERM County Court met In regular session at the Court House in Heppner, Morrow County, Oregon. on Wednesday, the 7th day of March. 1928. the game being the time for the regular meeting of said Court when all officers were present and the following proceedings were had: Upon written application of Nora Perlberg for help from the Poor Ac count and the same being duly consid ered the Court allowed the sum of $17.50 to be paid to her each month until further notice. A contract for the collection of de linquent taxes on personal property was entered into by the Court with Earl C. Miller and Is to cover the years 1919 to 1923 inclusive. The sum of $30,000 which represents the final payment to the State for the completion of the Lena-Vinson gap was ordered transferred to that fund from the Bond Fund and the sum of $3000 was ordered transferred to the Butter Creek road fund from the Bond Fund. The Court instructed the Sheriff to keep separate in the turnover to the Treasurer the amount of taxes due to Grazing Counties for the several lists of grazers as itemized to the Sheriff. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Swift of Heppner. Elsie Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Swift and children, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence How ell of Lexington. Dollie, Lucille and Rollins Farrena. Ted Burnside, Esther Adams, Will Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. BlHtne Chapel of Hardman. Miss Hildegarde Williams visited with friends in Prosser, Washington, on Saturday and Sunday. Mrs, Katherme Gentry visited in Heppner over the week-end. Miss Opal McDaniel has returned home from Echo where she has been working. Mary Saling went to Edgar Young's ranch in Eight Mile where she will work. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McDaniel of Alpine were visiting relatives here on Sunday. Tindal Robinson was a Hardman call er on Sunday. Wood contracts were given to R. H. Steers for the furnishing of the high school building and Wm. Greener toX the grade school. At the meeting of the board of direc tors on Saturday Miss Williams was elected principal of the grade school and Mrs. Mahrt was reelected to the position as primary teacher which po sition she has held for three years. Smith, trustee to succeed Mrs. S. H. Boardman who plans to leave. Other trustees are Mrs. Jess Allen. Mrs. O. H. Wuner. C. S. Calkins and J. R. Johnson. Reports of the various church organizations were heard and Dr. D. A. Thompson gave an inspiring address. S. H. Boardman left Sunday for Sa lem and later for Medford, where he will take up the work in the engineer ing department of the state highway on the Med l ord -Crater Lake high v ay. His family will follow at the close of school. Brice Dillabaugh is living on his homestead again. This is located on the highway about three miles west of Boardman. County Agent Sirith will hold a nioot ing here Friday nihpt for the club members, their parents, club leaders and anyone '.nterested in club work. Dr. D. A, Thompson of Portland was a luncheon guest Thursday at the J. R. Johnson home. The post ortlce department has made a new ruling effective at once regard ing the delivery on rural routes of parcel post packages too large to be put in the box. These packages can not be left at the box unless someone is at the box to receive it or else have at the post office a written order as suming all responsibility in case of loss. For example if you have ordered a new Easter bonnet from Montgomery-Sears the rural carrier cannot leave it at your box unless you are there to receive it or leave a written order that it be delivered at the box. Frequent thefts of packages from rural boxes is apparently the reason for this order but at any rate keep it In mind and if you are expecting a package, don't condemn Victor if it doesn't come.
