The special rates to immigrants made by transcontinental lines will bring thousands of home Btekers to Oregon this fall and Morrow c unty will be in line for her share. While our county has not been persistently advertised there has been a large amount of literature distributed throughout the east the past few months, and it should relt in bringing many people to our county the next few months. J. A. Woolepy alone sent out 15,000 pamphlets, and from other sources our county has been extensively advertised. It is earnestly desired that all who can conveniently will be pres ent and participate in the organ ization of a Morrow County Devel opment Club, a meeting for that purposa being called to meet in the city council chambers tomor row evening by Mayor Gilliam. Other towns of our own county and most of the towns of other counties of the state have organ ized local leagues to work in con junction with the Etate league for the development of the state's vast resources, and if Heppner wants to be classed among the prog ressive towns of our great state we ehould be up and doing. Kuroki, the brilliant Japanese general has done so much to force General Kuropatkin to "regret to report" defeat, is known to the Russians as "Proklaty Polak" (the accursed Pole). Kuroki is not Japanese, as many have supposed A few weeks ago it was announced in Berlin by Josake Oshima, Gen eral Kuroki'a nephew, that his uncle is not half French, a3 a French paper declared, but the son of Kuroweki, a Polish revolutionist of 1831. After that revolution great numbers of Poles were oblig ed to have their native land, and it is said that when the elder Kur owski was dying, he charged hi eons to avenge the wrongs whic! Russia had heaped upon Poland The son, under the name of Kur oki, is now following out those in structions by pounding the armieK of the power that got the lion'r chare of his fatherland.
