KAALINf PotiT NO. HI, O. A. R. MEET AT Odd Fallows' HU t Heppner, every third Snturday of each month. G. W. Hhu. adj. O. . Smith, Com. THURSDAY, MAY. 12, 1904. While politics seem to be rather quiet in Morrow county it is not altogether the true state of affairs. In other words things political are not altogether as they appear on the surfac . There seems to be a strong undercurrent; candidates are working on the quiet, making a still hunt as it were. Both the republican and democratic can didates are active, scurrying about the country keeping their put tical fences straightened up and en deavoring to break over into the other party's field for an occasional vote. That is a very nice way to work; it leave no sore spots ami at the came time is tffective. It is evident that the republicans have lost nothing, and as tht-y have a majority of 250 in the county they are not suffering from un easiness. Hon. G. W. Phelps, who returned lajt Friday from a thort trip to Penoleton, has reason to belive that he will get a very la.ge vote in U t.tuilla county which, with the large majority he will re ceive in t liia county, wil. giv him a safe majority for district attorney. G o. J. Cut rin, who has ben travtling over the county considerably of late, is very much encouraged with his'pro-ptct8 and all the rest oi the republican ticket. W. S. Connor, who has been through various localities the pa.-t week or more, makes a very favor able report. Sheriff Shutt, whose official duties has cill d him to many pms of the county the past wrek or Cwo. speaks very encou.ag inaly of prospects or the election of the entire republican tickvt. Th Times has information from parties reading in the various pre cincts of the county, and from ali fources th"ie is an encouraging word for the ticket In G. W. Phelps the icpublicans nom inated one of th lest young men oi Ea-tern Oregon for tbe office of dtsirir attorney, and one who huld recuvt Li entire party vote Mr I'hrtps is biigb lawyer ..nd as i man is thoroughly reliable and tmstwo thy. lie was a prominent lea 'er in le legisUtuie and is able and illing to U e an of h a act in the interests of the p op e whom he represented or any pi ria l in,; to an) legislation affecting the entire tate. He was tlre'.eas in h s labors during the en tire session, an I bis care r is a most commendable one. As a irosecuting attorney he will peform the duties of his j office independently and without sinister; purpose or political bal'asting He is clesn in politics industrious in his pro Cession, honest ss a man, and worth) of the trust the people of this district will Impose in him 'y their vutes next June Triliune.
