Although there are friendly con
tests on in this county for several
county offices between republicans,
there is no indication that the fac
tions in any one of the contest
will become irritated to the point
lhat any pore spots wil. result. So
far the bouts have come up in a
friendly way, each candidate appar
ently being inclined to meet his
opponent fairly and squarely and
which ever goes down to defeat his
opponent will rally to his support
after the convention. That is what
they should do, and there is no room
to believe that it w 11 be otherwise
with any of the present candidates

full knowledge that only one can
be nominated for each office, and

Representative Martin of South
Dakota, has n quested the house
to direct Secretary Cortelyou to
ascertain if any form of Monopoly
is being worked by the packers.
Mr. Martin has many constituents
that are cattle raisers and he
wants the new department of com
merce and labor to look into the
beef question. Stock raisers gen-
erally all over the country com
plain that tbey are not getting en
ough for their cattle. They think

The republican primaries in the four (.S
pre incis centering in Heppner were
very quiet afluirs. This harmonious

from these lists of names a list of dele-
gates was chosen tor the rennet cf

Heppner.

Cascade Mountains are rich in
agricultural popeibilities if water
could only b secured for them,
