Mr. and Mrs. Ora Barlow and Mrs Lee Howell returned to their homes Saturday from visiting rel atives in the Valley. Ed Dick of the Standard Oil Company, motored to Walla Walla and back, Wednesday. John Cochran returned home, Monday after two months spent in the state of Washington, trap ping for the Government. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Skeen left, Tuesday morning, on the stage, for the Valley. Mrs. Vera Howe Moen, lone High School, '21. whose ptvm, "May", appears in another col umn, is now a resident of Me Minnville. J. A. Troedson, of Morgur, was in lone Wednesday and gave The Independent a call. They brought us an invita tion, which we gladly accepts, to attend the closing progrurn ol the Vacation Bible School, which is to given at the Ellis Mino place, next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lish Sperry anrf family left for Portland, Friday. Mrs. Sperrv intends to aiay and attend the Summer School, but Mr. Sperry will return in two weeks. Churches in the Uni ted States, at the biennial meet ing of the Council to be held in Omaha, Neb., May 25 to June I, 1 1927. The present total membership is 014,69a While the membership has increased the churches have decreased by 72. the number now being 5.608. This development of fewer but larger churches is said to be he result of two fundmental principles which characterize the denomination,-first devotion to i an effective plan of evangelism, and second, determination tr have no part in bringing about or continuing an "over churched" condition in any community.
