Oreson Journal minimi SHE CAME AND WENT James Rues :ll Lowell As a twig trembles, which a bird LiRhts on to aintf , then leaves unbent. So is my memory thrilled and stirred; I only know she came and went. A clasp some lake by gusts unriven, The blue dome's measureless content So my sonl held that moment's heaven; I only know she came and went. As at one bound, our swift spring heaps The orchards full of bloom and scent, So dove her Mav my wintry sleeps; I only know she came and went. An angel stood and met my gaze, Through the low doorway of my tent; The tent is struck, the vision btays; I only know she came and went. Oh, when the room grows slowly dim, And life's last oil is nearly spent. One gush of light these eye will brim, Only to thiak she came and went. The little gate was reached at last. Half hid in lilacs down the lane; She pushed it wide and as she passed, A wistful look she backward cast. And said, "Auf wiedersehn!" Sweet piece of basnful maiden art! The English words had seemed too fain But these, theydrew us heart to heart, Yet held us tenderly apart; She said, "Auf viedersehn!" Church Newa Notes ot Interest to All Local Denominations.
