farmer of lone was calling in
Cecil on Wednesday. Ed is de
lighted with all the rains which
have visited his part of the
county lately,
Dick Logan and Harvey Smith
of Four Mile had a amall round
up of their own at Cecil on Wed
nesday while trying to harness
some mules.
Max and Sam Gorfkle of the
Army and Navy store at Pendle
ton were doing a rushing business
on Willowcreek on Thursday and
Friday.
A. A. Manning left on Wednes
day for his home in Pendleton.
A. A. has been working on the
Improvements which W. V. Pedro
has been making on his home
at Ewing.
Chas. D. Sennett arrived on
Saturday from Helena, Montana
and will visit his daughter, Mrs.
M. V. Logan at The Willows,

Store at Umatilla
Robert Balcomb of Morgan,
Ore., has opened a store in the
former Earl Brownell location.
Mr, Balcomb has been in busi
ness at Morgan and is an
experienced storekeeper. Mayor
Brownell was preparing to start
a "ca8h and carry" store in this
location but Mr. Balcomb was
impressed' with the city of Uma
tilla and purchased Ihe stock Mr.

Th" Baptist Ladies' Aid Society
will hold another sale at Moore's
furniture store on December 6th.
Besides several articlea left over
from the sale last week, more
have been finished and will be
disposed of at the December sale.
Mr. and Mrs. Johanas Troed
son and son Carl left on Saturday
for Portland, where they will
visit for a few days before, con
tinuing to KingsCity, California,
at which place one of Mrs.
Troed son's sons, Alfred Carlton
is located. Thev expect to arrive
in time to spena Thanksgiving,
and will remain at that place for
the winter. On their return to
Oregon next spring they expect
to visit Mr. ,Troedson'a brother
t San Jose.
Mrs. Etta Shippy of Portland
arrived in lone Sunday evening
and will spend Hie winter with
her sister, Mrs. Corson.

High School Notes
Th Junior and Freshman class
es gave a party last rnday
evening. Songs were sung'until
the entire crowd had gathered.
Various games were then played
and taffy pulls and corn popping
were features of the evening.
Apples and marahmallowa were
also served.
Frank Holub has not yet re
turned from Portland where he
is having his arm treated.
Fannie Marsters who has been
absent for the past three weeks
returned to school last Monday
Mr. Croisant left for the Valley
last Wednesday to spend his
Thanksgiving vacation. .
Miss Mclntyre left for Port
land last Wednesday to .spend
Thanksgiving with relatives and
friends.

Annual 0. S. T. A. Meeting
Eugene, Ore. (Special) -Three
educational leaders of national
reputation will appear on the
program of the Oregon State
Teacher's Association, at the
annual meeting in Portland, on
December 29 30 31. They are:
Mrs. Olive M. Jones of the ele
mentary schools of New York,
president of the National Edu
cational Association for the year
1923 24; President Thomas W.
Butcher of the Kansas state
teachers college, Emporia, Kan
sas, and Miss Mabel Carney,
specialist in rural education at
Teachera College, Columbia Uni
versity. There will be no general pro
gram on Monday, Decemoer 29,
af the opening day ia always
giveujover to the deliberations of
the representative council. He
ports of standing committees will
be heard, and all business of the
association will be transacted on
that day. Only the duly elected
delegatea may take part in the
discussions of the council, but
the sessions are public and all
teachera are cordially invited to
be present . The general ses
sions when the visiting educators
will speak, will be held on Tues
day morning. December 30th,
and Wednesday afternoon, De-.
cember 31st. Departmental
meetings will occar Tuesday
afternoon and Wednesday morn
ing. Departments of the association'

are: rural schools, boys' and
girls' club work, Oregon State
council of English, higher edu
cation, class room teachers,
librarians, city superintendents,

arrived Monday to spend the
holidays with her son,

Weds Portland Man
Miss Augusta Lindstrom of
Morgan was married to Mr.
Warren L. Crutcher of Portland
last Sunday. The wedding took
place at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. A. W. Lundell of that eity.
While cutting kindling Wed
nesday afternoon, Mrs. Corson
was unfortunate enough to cut
the end of her thumb nearly off.
Doctor Walker dressed the
wound.

Last Thursday evening two
small boys were informed that
a bin turkey all ready dressed
was hanging on E. J. Bristow's
porch. Taking this as a tip to

Last Friday night the seniors
entertained the Bophomorea and
alumni with a party which began
at 7:30 with the game of
"Bingo." Gladys Lundell and
Carl Linn furnished music and
later in the evening a supper
was served, consisting of roast
turkey, chicken dressing, mash
ed potatoes, - gravy, cranberry
sauoe, pumpkin pie and coffee.
The sophomores and alumni cer
tainly consider the seniors as
generous and entertaining hoBts,
the senior-Bophomore feast the
next evening, the boys got away
with the turkey in a way that
showed they Were not novices,
After carefully uplatching the
screen door on the porch, they
slipped away with the fowl
and hid it in the house of one of
Ione'a leading citizens. It was
returned the next morning in
