PAGE THREE ' OCdM 1 Walter Luckman wai in town from Lena on Tuesday and states that thera ia considerable feeding of itoek out that way. Tha weather ia not cold but there la sufficient anow to make it necessary to hand out the hay to the stock. The range eondi tiona are not very good this fall as tht grasa got too lata a start, but just the same Mr. Luckman is in good spirits and thinka there Is a fine fu ture right ahead for tha sheep and wool grower. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Jonet of Pas co, Waah., drove to Heppner on Sun day afternoon, bringing with them Mra. E. N. Crawford, who has been spending the past three months in that city at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. C. A. Jonta. Mr. and Mrs. Jonea returned home on Monday af ternoon. While Pasco stems quite far away from Heppner, with the good roada between here and thert it is now but about 4 hours' drive. Cecil Warner, who was in the city on Tuesday from his home near Lex ington, announces that ht has made a trade with a party at Hermiston for a tract of land over there, and some time after the first of the year will move onto the project and engage in the business of hay raising and dairy ing. Besides the 20 acres he trsdes for, Mr. Warner has taken a lease on 40 acrea and this will make him a pretty good sized dairy farm. Richard McElligott, formerly en gaged quite extensively In grsin rais ing in the lone country, spent several days in Heppner this week, from his home in Portland. He was here to look after some business affairs and tnjoying a little visit with the old timers. Mr. McElligott left for lone Wednesday to spend a short time vis iting with his son, Charles McElli gott, on the old McElligott farm out south of town. Judge Gilbert W. Phelps and J. S. Beckwith, court reporter, came over from Pendleton on Sunday afternoon to be present at the opening of the December term of circuit court on Monday. He had been over in tht Monu ment country to look after business and was returning to his home at Addie, Wash., where he and his fam ily ara located and whera Mr. Reaa oner and tht boys are engaged in lumbering. He continued hie journey Saturday. The ladies of Bethel chapel report that their bazaar held on last Thura- diy afternoon was a splendid I'jccers. The articles offered for sale went readily to the Chritttmas shoppirs and the candy and cooked food were also in great demand. Their financial re turns exceeded the sum of (200. Fred Steiwer, of the firm of Raley, Raley A Steiwer, Pendleton attorneys, waa in the city on Tuesday to attend to legal business before the circuit court. He appeared as the attorney for P. A. Anderson in hia mandamus proceedings against Clerk Anderson. Mrs. C. W. Shurte visited with rel atives at Arlington on Sunday. Her sister, Mrs. Weathcrford, is leaving for Southern California to spend the winter and Mrs. Shurte desired to visit with her befroe her departure. Mrs. J. H. Franklin and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Key of Freewater spent the week-end visiting with friends at Heppner and Cecil. Mrs. Key was formerly Misa Bernice Franklin, a student of Heppner high school.
