Arnold Pleper, accompanied by hi
mother, Mrs. John I1 if per, wii in
town short time on Tuesday, tht
first time for several weeks. He Is
just recovering from a spell of the
flu and Is pretty weak yet. Thinks it
rather tough for a man to be on the
sick list just when he should be get
ting ready for the harvest fields. Mr.
Pie per was also exhibiting some fine
specimens of potatoes of the Early
Eureka variety of which he is raising
quite an abundunt crop this season.
If they are as good as they look the
Early Eureka is certainly a fine po
tato. Reports coming In from the north
lone section, where threshing is now
well under way, are to the effect that
wheat is turning out well. The Mc
Devitt boys, who are getting busy on
their 1400 acres, have been making
about 38 bushels to the acre so far
but do not expect the average for
the entire acreage to keep up to this
figure. This is Turkey Red and runs
142 pounds to the sack and tests No.
1. Dwight Misner, as usual, made
the first shipment out of lone. He
will harvest 1700 acres and expects an
average yield of 25 bushels.
Percy Hughes of Butter creek this
week purchased the residence proper
ty of B. R. Patterson in this city.
This is one of the nice homes of the
town and will be occupied by Mr.
Hughes and his family at the begin
ning of the school year. Mr. and
Mrs. Patterson have decided to per
manently locate in Southern Califor
nia, probably at Pasadena, where Mr.
Patterson la negotiating for a drug
business.
Pete Greenwood of the state en
gineer's department has opened up
his office in Hotel Heppner here. Mr.
Greenwood succeeds H. G. Smith on
this division. Mr. Smith, who has
been residing at lone for the past
three years, has been transferred to
Ontario and will have charge of the
road work in the eastern part of the
state.
John Healey was in from Whitney
where he has. his sheep on summer
range, to spend the week end with his
family. He states that the grass was
never better in the mountains than
this season and sheep are doing fine.
Ruins most every day and there is an
abundance of moisture.
W. B. Tucker was in town for a few
hours on Monday. He is getting In
to his harvest this week and will be
a busy man for some time putting the
grain in the sack. His wheat gives
promise of a fine yield, this being true
of moat of the Uluckhorae section.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stone and Mr,
and Mrs. Chas. Cox returned home
from a short trip to Portland on Sun
day. Mr. Stone had gone to the me
tropolis for a medical examination.
I will handle Brunswick phono
graphs and take orders for records

CRADLE OF RED.
THE Reds are all evolutionists. Evo
lution has given them their pro
gram and method. They got their in
centive of practical evolution from
Karl Marx, who got it from Haeckel,
who got it from Spinoza, who got it
from the Greek philosophers, who
got it from Egyptian priestcraft, who
got it from the Babylonian priest
craft, who taught the transmigration
of souls and the transmutation of
specie.
The Reds believe that all who
preach and teach evolution the work
ing for the world wide cause of the
Reds. They laugh at the rich and
watch them pay. They know if evo
lution, and collectivism are taught
in all grades of our schools that the
masses will become Reds and will
rise up and take possession of all
property and natural resources. The
end of a road tells you where it
ends.
W henever you proclaim that the

is nothing you have determined on

When you say that man's origin is
in the lower elements of life, you
thereby repudiate the sovereignty ol
God and His creative hand, and, you
have licensed the world to do as it
