PAGi; SIX Church and Club Women Working For Bundle Day Cluh and church momen are ac tixelv encase J in promoting the Bun dle Day Campaign designed to col krt and ship spare clothing to help clothe the near-naked of the Near East. Young people's societies of the churches are raising a clothing fund to deliver the clothing free of trans portation charges. Their aim is at least 25 cents per member and as many more quarters as may be col lected from friends outside their or ganizations. The campaign has national, state and local endorsement from clubs, lodfes and religious groups because or rne piteous appeals coming from in; war-tom areas of the Near East. The committee is asking for coats ana suits for men, women and chil aren. overcoats, shoes, cotton, and wool stockings, cotton and wool dresses, knit underwear, the heavier the better, blankets and quilts and everything else that will give warmth in winter or serv ice in summer. The things not wanted include laces, silks, very thin cotton and all other articles neither warm ror serviceable Any thing is wanted that might be need ed in America if no clothing, cloth. nedles, thread or buttons had been available for six years. "And do leave the buttons on," said Mrs. Hugh McGuire of Port land, a member of the State clothing committee. Last year a whole ship ment of clothing came to one relief station minus all the buttons not even hooks and eyes to hold the gar ments together in the fierce wintry winas. Deliver bundles early at the local station or send directly to Near East Kelier, Portland. Clothing must reach Portland not before May 24th, nor later than May 30th. 1 r;!ev at h THE GAZETTE-TIMES, IIEITNER, OREGON, TjTTRSDAY MAY IS, 1922. ;n school at i ! a. m. 'ndeavor at 7 p. m. Williams Republican National Committeeman Insists that his campaigh be clean, fair, instructive and impersonal Ralph E. Williams has served ns Republican National Com mitteeman for Oregon until he is the senior member of the Committee. In June, 1921, at the Committee's first meeting nfter the in auguration of President Warren G. Harding, every state cast its vote for Ralph E. Williams of Oregon for Vice-Chairman of the Committee, recognizing by their unanimous vote his fitness and ability as a leader to fill this responsible position. This distinction gives to Oregon and the Pacific Coast much power and influence in party affairs. Does the character of the campaign of the opposition lead you to think that you can get this kind of influence and power in National Councils by the election of their candidate? A National Committeeman does not make appointments that is done by the President; nor does a National Committee man legislate that is the function of Senators and Congress- - --0- men; the business of a National Committeeman is to give atten tion to the affairs of the Party as an organization. In this falph Williams has made a conspicuous success. Had there been any legitimate reason why Mr. Williams should not ho e-elected, or any doubt as to his loyalty and service to the party or its candidates it would have appeared in niwinna ections and before he had shown the value of his sen-ices to the party by being unanimously elected Vice-Chairman by the National Committeemen from the forty-eight States After Ralph K. Williams harmonized tin. u-.,riv u-w to disrupt itf ' ' By all rules of fair play, because of the work 1. i,,w ,i,.,. in the past, he is entitled to re-election. Having no legitimate reason for mmosin.r l,;a r,.i.w;, uie opposition has circulated unfair, misleading and poisonous statements. We do not wish to insult your intelligence or your sense of fairness, and regardless of what the opposition has done or may do in an eleventh hour attempt to impose its poison upon you, there will be no disposition on Mr. Williams' part to adopt their unclean methods. 1 13 X RALPH E.
